I don't know what I'm doing wrong - body completely gray

Hello. I've watched some videos, asked around in the game, and generally read every paper that came with everything I got. I felt like I had a pretty good grasp on what to do to make my avatar look at least nice to me, and hopefully not spend a lot of money that I don't have. I bought an avatar and everything went well until I tried to change the body's skin tone to match the head. The body, the head, all came as one purchase but they are separate peaces that I had to add individually. Since the body has turned gray I can't get it to turn back flesh colored, it's like the selector is stuck. On advice I tried to detach and reattach several times but nothing works. I sent a message to the avatar creator but I don't know when or if they will get back to me. Does anyone have any idea what I can do either to fix this or work around it? I can show you in the game or something if my explanation doesn't make sense.

Maybe the first thing to confirm is that others see you as gray, too, making sure it's not something b0rked in your viewer.

Next might be to see if you can start again with a fresh copy of the avatar, either by unpacking again the package the avatar came in, or by getting a redelivery of this avatar from the creator (sometimes just a web click away).

One reason to start again is "it's like the selector is stuck." Assuming you're doing this on script-enabled land, that suggests maybe the HUD script broke and may need to be reset -- which is easy if the HUD has Modify permission -- and impossible otherwise, in which case a fresh copy is needed. (One reason to try detaching and reattaching, btw, is that scripts may be written to try to reset themselves when attached or rezzed, but if the script is really broken it won't be able to do that.)

Hey thanks Qie. I followed your suggestions (confirmed others saw it grey, etc) and eventually found out I was on the wrong type of land. So it was very much my fault for not knowing how these things work and it was not broken at all. Thanks for helping me!
