None of my edits to the face of my character when I edit it are showing at all.

 I'm trying to edit my character's face but everything I put in Chin doens't seem to do a thing. And I also can't seem to change the hairstyle.

Just a guess, but you may be trying to edit mesh attachments, which is not generally possible.  The Appearance sliders in your viewer will only affect the appearance of your actual -- that is, "classic" -- avatar (not "character") body, not whatever mesh framework or prim attachments you erect around it.  If you want to change your hairstyle, you'll have to buy and wear different hair.  If you're wearing a mesh avatar with a mesh head, you'll have to invest in a different one, or choose one of the free ones in the Avatar Picker in your viewer.
