e-mail password does not match

I have recovered my e-mail on file. I had to use a new password. But now, althoughthe account dashboard will let me in, when I go to change up e-mail preferences to a new one, it's prompts me for the old password. I suspect that the database is not updating, yet. What is your advice?

Are you sure that you are entering the right password?  It should be asking for your Second Life account password, not your e-mail password.
