how to you make profile groups private? where nobody, including friends can look at picks and/or groups?

I have recovered my e-mail on file. I had to use a new password. But now, althoughthe account dashboard will let me in, when I go to change up e-mail preferences to a new one, it's prompts me for the old password. I suspect that the database is not updating, yet. What is your advice?
