Unfortunately, that can sometimes happen with mesh items that have a lot of detail. I have an alt that loses a leg occasionally too. You may be able to force the viewer to redraw it by toggling into wireframe mode and back out again (CTRL + Shift + R), or by teleporting to a low-lag region like Smith or maybe just teleporting to high elevation where you are. If all else fails, relogging usually brings it back for me.
