Congratulations.  You have just discovered "bake fail." Your appearance information is stored on Linden Lab's servers and downloaded fresh to your computer as you log in.  If you had a wonky Internet connection or if you have been messing with your av a lot recently, it may not load completely.  If not, you'll look like a fluffy cloud.  Follow the suggestions at http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_bake_fail to cure it.  If that happens to you often, avoid wifi and reboot your router and modem occasionally.
