Hardware Skinning, I use firestorm, and can't enable it? The box is greyed out?

Hardware skinning affects how the avatar skin and systemclothes get rendered and not the colour about mesh.  If you look close to the settings section its under "Avatar Rendering" :)

Even that you can wear mesh as attachments, they won't get rendered by this. They are still like any prim inworld.

That it is greyed out means, some of the other settings that are needed for it are not active. Maybe your graphics card is not detected correctly and the viewer set all to low for that reason. The colour is affected by Basic and Atmospheric shaders the most, also Advanced Lightning Model will change it.

EDIT: After reading the firestorm wiki, it can somehow affect the rendering sometimes, but thats related to the whole rendering, not for the colour. And also only affect worn mesh.
