hi LL say

Using the control panel

Each home includes a control panel that enables you to manage your home accessories and to change the textures used.

The Linden Home control panel is located inside next to the front door.  Simply click to use it.  You will be prompted to confirm loading a web page in your web browser.

The control panel provides two ways to customize your home's textures:

  • Complete texture sets provide color scheme options for your home. Choose Complete Texture Sets option, then browse through the texture set choices.
  • Home detail textures provide choices for various aspects of the decor, such as walls, trim, windows, and so on.

Accessory controls

Accessory controls provide control over things such as lighting and doors.  The accessory controls vary between home models; for example:

  • Exterior Lighting - Toggle your exterior lighting.
  • Interior Lighting - Toggle your built-in lighting.
  • Door Locks - Lock your door so that only you (the owner) can click on it to open.
  • Fireplace - Toggle your fireplace flames.

Welcome to Second Life Answers, Vincent

Locks really don't work in Second Life. Anyone can get inside a home. Fortunately, though, no one can move or remove your belongings, unless you expressly set your permissions inworld for them to be able to do this.

More on the official Second Life Knowledge Base about all of this. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Linden-Homes/ta-p/700103

This does include the information given in jeffrey1's link, but also a whole lot more about land etiquette.

*rolls her eyes on Jeffrey*

Some houses come with scripts that not only allow to open a door with a click but disable this function to others. This option depends on each house individually. Its not a guranteed feature. However, a locked door is absolutly pointless behond a light feeling of realsm and roleplay aspects. A locked door does not really keep people outside. Anyone could still be able to look into your house (no, using blinds does not do the job either) or enter by simply click and sit on an object inside the house.
