bebejee
I have seen a couple of houses that were furnished with very real looking things, the lighting too, what kind of mesh is this?
arton Rotaru
Mesh is mesh is mesh is mesh. Could be highpoly mesh, could be lowpoly mesh with proper use of normal and specular maps. Could be nice texture work. Could be a combination of all of them. But there is still only one kind of mesh.
bebejee
I have never seen anything like it before and have seen alot of mesh stuff so was wondering, I mean this stuff ihas wow factor unlike the other mesh things.
arton Rotaru
Well, depends on how it's made actually. If it has an incredible amount of geometry and modeled detail, it's rather easy to do something that has a wow factor. However, in game like environments, the art is to make something that looks great but is pretty lowpoly as well. So without knowing what it actually is, it's hard to tell if it's really wow, or not. Spinell
well, now I'm curious. Could you take a picture of an example you saw? Like the others said: there's only one kind of mesh. I'm guessing this wow factor comes from really good texturing.

Dree Eames
Standard mesh work on a hobbiest level. Not realistic...more fantasy based.

Dree Eames
There are loads of vendors in SL that are successful in creating a look more rooted in realism. I'm not a professional but a hobbiest and here's an example of the type of realistic items I make (as a creator not a merchant) for SL in terms of realistic texturing and lighting. Note also that it is a choice to make items that fall in the category of fantasy, and not something good or bad - just a choice. Edited to add: Small list of designers who produce items of high quality that are more "realistic" then the example posted: Dutchie, La Galleria, Apple Fall, Trompe L'oeil...in no particular order intended, nor is it any exclusive list....just a few vendors of extremely high quality "realistic mesh/texturing work in SL.
