Yes, the beta grid is *the* place to go for building/uploading.

They give you free funny money when you log in, and it costs the same in $L to upload there as on the main grid.  But the beta grid $L's are free.

Of course, nothing you build on beta can be directly exported to SL.  You will have to upload and pay the regular fees to get them onto the main grid.

If you want to upload mesh, you will need to find the beta grid IP quiz, which is exactly the same as the main grid IP quiz.  And, if I recall, they require that you give (but not use) payment information, as part of the qualification process for uploading mesh.

The Beta or Aditi grid will save you a lot of Lindens when testing things you build.

When you first login, your SL inventory is copied over form the main grid AGNI. Whenever you change your password, the inventory in Aditi is wiped out and over written by a new copy of the inventory from SL. It is a great idea and useful to those creating things.

But... it doesn't always work. So... never change your SL password when you are in the middle of a time sensitive project. Also, sorts of bizzare things are known to have happened when things aren't working as expected.

Also, Aditiis where the Lindens test server code before it makes it to RC versions. If you do a lot of work in Aditi is is wise to attend the Thursday Server Beta UG meeting held in Morris at 3 PM PDT. Also read the Delpys for the week of... found in the SL Forum->Tech->Servers.

Inara Pey and I both blog about information revealed in those meetings. So, if the time is bad for you, you have an alternative.
