If I change my account, can I transfer my current inventory to the new one?

So it appears that the only way to change your name is to create a new account.

I'm fine with that, but will my accumulated inventory and Linden dollars follow me automatically?  If not, can I transfer everything to the new account?

Only if its transferable. Money of course is. Everything that you got copy or mod/copy will not. You can talk to a linden but chances are that they cant help ya here. Best thing to do is ask the merchants, maybe you can work a deal out with them. Many have big hearts.

Nothing will happen automatically - you will have to do it.  Gift your Linden dollars to the new account and drop all transferrable items on to the bottom bar in the profile of the new avatar.

 

No Transfer items are just that - you will have to buy them or find them again, or throw yourself on the mercy of the various vendors and hope they feel sympathetic.

If there are some no-trans rezzable items you wish to still use (dance balls, houses, etc) rez them inworld when you want to use them and make sure your new account has modify rights to your original account's objects.  Keep your original account active enough by logging it in every now and then, and you can use this method whenever you need to.

I do believe that paying a one time $9.95 fee allows you a new basic account and does allow you to transfer inventory to and from.  However, making a basic account just by signing up does not do the trick.

Great answer, Lodi! That's exactly what I did when I left my account and created this one to have a fresh start. Some clothes are no transf but there are some nice vendors who may be willing to give your alt a copy of your item so as long you show them your transaction history. Some may not, and want you to repay. And it's understandeable. But many are very kind. After all it doesn't cost them anything and they rather make a customer happy to ensure future business. But you will have a harder time convincing vendors for high priced items however. Clothes/hair/skin/shapes so as long as they are identical in color, style, and such(don't go asking... "hey i have this shirt, but instead can i get that new shirt which is same price instead?") I am sure they would not mind, but if you ask a vendor to re-send your alt a 2000L castle you just bought, or a 1000L furniture set, I think they will just tell you the same Lodi has, which is rez the item and give your alt modify rights. Also tho.... It does not hurt to ask your vendor to reset the rights. My wife has items which are no copy or no mod or no transf changed if she asks a vendor politely enough and gives a valid reason. Not just to give it away or something or resell. A lot of vendors are kind and have no problem with it. Just be ready to show your transaction history.
