My Avitar can be seen by others, but I look like a red cloud. How do I fix this?

Hello,

I can be seen by others, but I see myself only as a red cloud. I have tried a dozen things to fix it, on the advice of an experienced resident and nothing has worked. How do I fix this?

Fressca, this is usually due to one of two things.

1.  Poor internet connection.  Try the following:

• If you are using wireless internet, don't.  Use FIOS, DSL, or cable to connect to the internet
• If you are using WiFi to connect to your home network, don't.  Use an ethernet cable to connect your computer to your network.
• Turn off your internet modem/router, wait a couple of minutes, then turn it back on and let it reboot
• Try adding the free Google DNS addresses to your router's setup
• Try a different router.  Some brands such as D-Link have been known to have problems with SL

2.  A corrupt inventory item.  This is probably not the case for you, because other people can see you.  But here are some fixes:

• Go to an emply, low lag region such as Smith, Pooley, or Heckendorf
• Use Replace Outfit to wear one of the "starter" avatars from Library/Clothing/Initial Outfits, or
• Force a default avatar.  Add the Advanced menu to your top menu bar with CTRL+ALT+D. and the Develop menu with CTRL+ALT+Q.  Then go to Develop/Avatar/Character Tests/Test Female to transform into a basic female avatar.
• Put on your normal appearance, one item at a time.  Take note to see if any item makes you go cloudy again.
