Amethyst Jetaime
Without more a lot more details about specific properties you are interested in it is hard to say. However in general if you rent land on the mainland you may be given more owner rights such as the ability to choose your own media, whereas skyboxes rarely come with them. You may get more prims but you will also probably need to provide your own house and furniture unless the landlord provides that. Sky boxes generally offer more privacy and are less expensive but may come with less prims. However you can probably put up a skybox over land you rent as long as the lease doesn't forbid it. Skyboxes generally, but not always, cost less than a land rental. Many skyboxes rentals come fully furnished too. The best thing you can do is look at both and find one of each kind that you like. Then carefully compare how much they cost, the number of prims, what you have to provide yourself in the way of furniture or in the case of land a house and the cost of that, and the specific terms of the lease. jwenting
also, many skyboxes come set up just so, and as a renter you can't change that. Rent a parcel and you typically have a lot more freedom (but read the rental agreement, there may well be rules about what you're allowed to place there). Also, if you have sl pets, many of them (especially those using pathfinding) have trouble in skyboxes as they're often designed in such a way as to block the navmesh.
