How can I send an IM while I am offline

I'd like to send IM's to online friends when I cannot be inworld.  Is there a way to do that from my dashboard?

On your dashboard, near to the top, there is a link to My Second Life, the web feed.

If you want to send a private message to a specific avatar, you can do so via the feed, and they should get a message in their email to say they've been sent a message.

Not everyone uses this feature though.

Also, if someone sends you a message via IM from inworld and it reaches your email, you can simply click on the reply button, and your reply email should go to the person inworld (it will not show your email details, it will look just like any other IM to the recipient in world.)
