MorbidGnome
Hiya. I didn't want to post a new thread about my issue, but it's at the point now, where it has me beyond frustrated. For the past week or so, I have been getting disconnected every few minutes, relentlessly. Some days I can be online all day without an issue, and the next, I will be getting DCd literally every 5 minutes. There will be a moment where everything will stop working, and I won't be able to move (besides spinning in a circle), then shortly after I get the error "You have been logged out of Second Life. This region may be experiencing trouble. Please check your connection to the internet". If I try to log right back in, I will get one of several errors like "Login failed. Your account will be available at...", or "Log in failed. The region has begun the logout process". It is getting infuriating. I have talked to a few people, some of them are having no issues at all, and others are having similar issues of varying degrees. I am wondering if this is a wide-spread/known issue, or if I'm the only one having it. -East Coast, USA-I use Firestorm's latest release-I have already rebooted my modem, unplugged/replugged it, power cycled it, etc (I don't use a router)-I have cleared my cache multiple times-It's only SL. I can watch streaming movies, play other games, listen to music, etc with no DC/buffering issues at all-Speed and packet loss tests are all fine/in the green-It always happens the same way...perfectly fine, then I can't move, then I get the gray DC screen Please help save my sanity! Nethya Emor
My best advice would be to do a clean install, I have uninstalled all viewers that I don't use and my main one and then reinstalled it, now it's flawless. Uninstall viewer. Back-up any logs you have. Delete all remaining files of it. (Local and Temp data, Program Files data in case some is left Download viewer again. Optional: Run CCLeaner. Restart PC. Install Viewer. Keep your bandwidth to around 1500 (although, 1000-2000 seems to be fine in my case). You should be good to go now with fresh new installation of viewer. Cincia Singh
A couple thoughts: 1. Are you connecting to the internet via wireless? If you are, switch to an ethernet cable and see if that fixes your issue. 2. You say your speed and packet loss are in the green but what is the actual speed of your internet connection and what bandwidth setting are you using in your viewer? The viewer bandwidth setting should be a little lower than your actual internet speed (not the speed advertised by your ISP). The Phoenix/Firestorm devs recommend the viewer bandwidth be set at, or below, 1500. 3. Aside from internet speed and packet loss, what is your ping time to SL? High ping times cause bad things to happen. 4. The message " ... region has begun the logout process" generally indicates you're being disconnected on your end not SL's. 5. Comparing SL to watching streaming movies and music is apples to oranges ... as long as your computer reconnects to the internet before the buffer runs out you'd never notice. However, even a brief disconnect on your end will end your connection to SL. Good luck with your issue.
MorbidGnome
Hiya. Thanks for the replies. I will try a clean install of Firestorm, since it does seem like the issue started after I updated to the newest version. Other than that; I connect with ethernet, because I know wireless sucks for anything that needs to be stable. LIke I said I do play a variety of other games, and I feel like in those I WOULD notice high ping and packet loss as lag spikes and DCs, in addition most of them have lag/fps indicators that are always in the green for me. It is only SL that's giving me this issue. My internet isn't the fastest...DSL, 3k down, 750 up, but it's always been very stable. I have SL's bandwidth thing at 950 right now. I will check my ping/packet loss to SL and include it in my next reply (if it isn't fixed by then). I was fine last night for about 3 hours straight...I didn't get kicked out at all. When I logged in today though...DC'd after 5 minutes.
Cincia Singh
Sounds good ... keep in mind that there was no rolling restart for the main grid this week so it could be that some regions are getting laggy, especially if they've been busy regions or are sharing a server with other busy regions.
