OK, it's maybe not new to some of you Mac users, but I found out today that Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion both hide the ~/Library directory by default, the reason likely being to prevent accidental deletion of critical files that are needed for apps to run. Since most users don’t ever need to go into the Library folder, this isn’t terribly shocking, but for those of us who do require accessing our Library directories it can be a bit shocking to discover the directory is no longer instantly visible as it once was.

Fortunately, this is easy to reverse and if you wish you can switch the behavior. Here's how to do it. :smileyhappy:

(note that you will have to enable a special character: ~ (by pressing alt+N)

I hope this is useful! :smileyhappy:

That depends on your personal settings I think. I get this for instance: ˜

So you can also  just copy and paste the following in Terminal:

chflags nohidden ~/Library/

If you want to hide it again then insert this in Terminal

chflags hidden ~/Library/

Yep Six, that's what I just did! Thanks for your input! :smileyhappy: Actually, I didn't have to bother about my cache until some recent inventory issues, so I'm just discovering that! :D

Thank you Valerie!

Yw Melita! Last time I needed to clear my cache, I was on Snow Leopard (about a year ago). When I ugraded to Moutain Lion, I had no idea the new system would hide the cache files. So when I looked for the SL cache the other day, I just sat blinking stupidly wondering what I was doing wrong! Took me some time on Google before finding this useful link. I thought posting it here could help other lovers of this big cat! :D
