Pamela Galli
I made a key and keyhole for a chest and uploaded it with but not joined to the chest. Everything is fine. Then I tweaked the keyhole and the chest just a little and uploaded inworld and the keyhole and key turned black when I applied the texture. Normals are okay. I uploaded the keyhole/key by itself, still black when I apply texture.Anyone have any suggestions?
Pamela Galli
I tried putting an inworld gold texture on it and it just turned white. I was able to tint it tho.
Chosen Few
Sounds like a UV problem to me. If I'm right, the white is likely a highlight from the gold texture, and the black was probably in the same area on the previous texture. I'd suggest you check the UV's in the source model, and make sure they didn't get borked. Then re-export the .dae, and make sure UV's are included. Codewarrior Congrejo
I also think as Chosen that this is a UV problem. Especially because you said that you edited the model at a later point again. In that case the UVs might have gotten out of space. Or even have new faces which lay on unused or wrong areas of the UV grid and the texture. Pamela Galli
Thank you Chosen and Codewarrior -- I never would have figured that out! The UVs and mesh etc were fine, but when exporting I did not have everything checked to include. Now all is good.

And I am SO grateful for those of you who share your knowledge and expertise with the rest of us. I would otherwise be stuck staring at tutorials in bewilderment, wondering where I went wrong.
