How do I activate a new account when I'm using Phoenix viewer?

You activate a new account by regsitering on the Second Life web site and then downloading and installing a viewer  -- ANY viewer.  You can't get a viewer until you have already opened the account.  See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Second-Life-Quickstart/ta-p/1087919#Section_.1 .

Now, Phoenix is not a very good choice.  Its developers have already stopped supporting it, and within a month or so it will be effectively disabled so nobody will be able to use it.  If you don't want to use the "official" V3 viewer, you may select from any of the other Third Party viewers at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory.  Depending on the quality of your computer and its Internet connection, you will be able to enter SL with any of them once you have registered.
