Avatars arms move when typing. I have disabled the typing in preferences.

You should be able to kill that animation by UNchecking Preferences >> Chat >> Play Typing Animation While Chatting.  That does the same thing as setting the Debug Setting (in your Advanced (CTRL+Alt+D) menu) for PlayTypingAnim to FALSE.
