You don't but the group has to. The Buy For Group window in About Land is similar to the "Buy Land" window except the second checkbox under "Buying land for group will have a note about having sufficient land use credits to cover the parcel. Credits are gained as group members use their tier to pay for land deeded to the group. When bought, the land will be "Group Owned", which means the owner listed will be the group rather than an individual.
