can you play secondlife in a web browser?

is it possible to play secondlife with out downloading it, i have a few friends that really want to play but there computer aint good enough and they dont have money to buy a new computer/ laptop. so i was wondering if there was a web based viewer.

It's a very good way to play second life with mobile, i can chat, pay, see residents profile, see transactions, IM and even see a second life in 3D (not a so good with a viewer, but very nice).

Yes, it's been discontinued at the end of 2010.
