You must sell the region (transfering regions -> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Managing-Private-Regions/ta-p/700115#Section_.4 ).

You either sell it to someone else or you abandon it.

1. Right-click on the land you own and select About Land. The About Land window opens.
2. In the General tab of the About Land window, click Abandon Land.
