How to Download my Shape and turn it into Mesh?

Hello people! I've seen it done people pulling their shape from SL to turn it into mesh, I wanted to do this and smooth the av out some, I am going to start toying with mesh once I finish downloading my program. Could anyone direct me to a 'How to' page to turn my shape into mesh? Also maybe some interesting tutorials for Mesh with Maya would be helpful if you know any =3

 

edit: Also I'd like to find a tutorial on rigging and such.

Getting your shape is the easiest step. There are two many avenues to use: You can use an old Phoenix viewer to download your .obj files for your shape or use basically any current viewer and download your shape as an .xml file. The .xml method is the easiest since it includes the skeleton and geometry in one go.

I made video tutorials that cover both methods. My modeler of choice is Blender. But, the steps for getting your shape in are pretty generic and are the same for most programs:
