I just recently returned to Second Life. Until midday of my Rezday, the most up to date list of newbie freebies I could find was from 2011, so I went to work on a new project that would require me to be a newbie still.

I've spent most of the past two days trying to make a nicer, up to date list of time sensitive freebies for newbies. The page includes a list of stores, hyperlinked to their SURLs, with exact listings of the offered items. There are also pictures of the items being added. It's a rather massive work in progress, so some entries will be really sparse for a few days while I unpack everything, take pictures, and update information.

The guide can be found here, while it's still populating to websearches.

I certainly thought it had been rough work for you. All I did was a little open office spreadsheet of marketplace freebies for my Wife, when she first started, and that was pretty hard to keep track of with pictures and info already provided. I hope it's been worthwhile work for you. Did you ever think of contacting the creators or doing any writing/blogging designers or freebies?

My blog is pretty generalized right now. I have been considering highlighting stores and sims in it as I run across them, but it's a very relaxed and loose idea at the moment. The newbie guide page, which I thought was better than a post on it, could easily remain a centralized document for it...but adding a post when I add stuff might not hurt.

I think I may do up a notecard and send it to each of the store owners of the stores covered so far, and let them know they're being featured, and offer the option to add anything they want to my listing. I'm also trying to figure out the most effective way to reach other creators who I might not have heard of and offer them a place in the listings, so advice on that would be welcomed.

Personally, one of my eventual SL goals is to become a model - even though my current resources are limited to the freebies I've gotten, aside from the skin I bought, it's been the funnest part of the whole project!

I like what you've done.  I especially like the photos modeling some of the freebies.

Is there any chance you, or someone else, would be willing to do something similar with a male avatar?

I read rather quickly, so I could be mistaken, but I don't think you did anything specific with freebie shapes/skins.  That would be a nice addition.  Actually skins/shapes could be an entire post all by itself.

I will be doing the shapes/skins last, mostly because they involve the most dramatic amount of change, and editing in Photoshop - I don't want to put them in clothing that doesn't come with them, for example, so I'll need to add censor bars to the images. When I do the skins/shapes, I may end up doing the male avatar stuff myself, even though that's going to be so completely weird. >.> Unfortunately, First Life has really smacked me in the face the past week, so I haven't gotten much updated. =(
