Second Life Destinations - Missing Mile

Step into the mysterious town of Missing Mile, tucked deep within North Carolina's woods. As you traverse its murky tunnel entrance, you're greeted by whispers of dark secrets. Is it a sanctuary for the supernatural or just the whispers of small-town myth?

Learn more from the town’s owner, Nothing (Loch Newchurch).

What is Missing Mile all about?

It started in 2006 as a desire to create a supernatural place of my own where I could role-play. I had finished reading a vampire book called "Lost Souls" by Poppy Z. Brite so I decided to name my land after the fictional town mentioned in the book. The sim is a mix of landmarks inspired by the book (such as the Sacred Yew Bar) and other buildings from pop culture (such as The House on Paper Street from “Fight Club” and the Quick Stop from the movie “Clerks”). Through the years it has transformed from a supernatural role-play sim to a place all kinds of avatars can take residence. Role-play is still encouraged but completely optional.

What inspires you to make stuff in Second Life?

I find inspiration in movies, games, or books I'm really into at the time. Second Life allows you to really immerse yourself in the fandom of your choice. Become your favorite character or feel like you're a part of their world or their story.

What does Second Life mean to you?

I've been in SL for about 17 years so it feels like a second home I feel I could never part with. It's a place where I can relax after a busy day and let creativity fly. A place where an introverted girl like me can interact a little easier with people from all over the world.

Your display name (Nothing) is interesting, tell us more about it.

This comes from the book “Lost Souls” I mentioned. Here's the quote that inspired me to use the name "Nothing”: “I am Nothing. He liked the name. It did not make him feel worthless; on the contrary, he began to think of himself as a blank slate upon which anything could be written. The words inscribed on his soul were up to him.”

Whether you're seeking intrigue or tales to tell, Missing Mile offers a uniquely captivating experience.
