Question

Hi folks...I had a strange incident happen today and am hoping you can give me some insight on it, please.

I have a Linden home and recently purchased a hot tub for it. The HUD allows settings as to which users can access menus, pose balls, etc. The security options were set to €Anyone Can Access€.

While setting some poses, I clicked on the HUD and was denied access because the HUD was being used by someone else and identified that persons username. I do not know this person.

I quickly checked the €œNearby People€ tab and the name did not appear. I then did a people search and located the person€™s profile. Following that, I checked the front door controls  and it was locked.

After that, I added Ban Lines around the parcel and also added the person to the Banned Residents list.

Have you ever heard of anything like this? It€™s as if someone teleported in and then started playing with my stuff.

I haven€™t confronted this person, yet at least not until I€™ve heard back from you.

And...have I done everything I can do to prevent something like this in the future?

Thanks!

You don't need to be nearby to click on something.   You just have to be within camera range -- which could be a region away.  In this case, though, I sincerely doubt that the HUD was in use by someone else, since the only person who can see a HUD is the person who is wearing it.  I suspect that somebody at a distance was clicking on the hot tub itself.

So, what should you have done?  You should have just set the security access to "Owner Only" or maybe "Group Only" instead of leaving it "Anyone Can Access".  That would have solved the entire problem.

On a different philosophical level, I have to ask .... Why do you want to do anything more restrictive than that?  After all, nobody can steal or break your stuff.  If someone wants to visit while you are not home, what's the big deal?  If someone visits while you are home, then ask them to leave or, if necessary, eject them.  IMO, Ban lines and more severe measures don't truly accomplish much more than annoy people.

All this means is that another person, clicked on the menu [because you allowed public access] and left. The script time-out threshold for the llListen had not expired and the menu was just informing you of this fact so you wouldn't take the menu privileges away from them prematurely.

If you didn't want visitors to have access to your things just setting the Group option would do the trick.
