If you just have a starter avatar, are new to the game and no SL skills you won't be able to get a job in SL.  Most employers for low skill jobs will only hire people that have upgraded their avatars so they no longer look like a newb and have been in SL long enough to know the basics.  Typically, depending on the employer, that is 30 to 90 days.

Check out this blog, FabFree for tips on where you can get free things to use to upgrade your avatar.  Other than that, the few things you can do to get L's are hardly worth your time because you have to put a lot of time in to earn just a very few L's. It could take you weeks to earn enough to buy just one outfit.

If you can afford a computer and internet you should be able to afford to buy L's.  It is just a matter of priorities.  Skip buying lunch and brown bag, give up that starbucks coffee a couple days a week, skip RL forms of entertainment once in a while, (you get the idea) and instead use the money you save doing these things to buy L's.  You can also get a part time RL job at minimum wage and work the few hours a week you would spend trying to get L's for nothing and earn enough to live like a queen in SL.

A day? A week?

As a clueless and new resident its unlikly that anybody will offer you a job, even more if you are unable to create a desireable first impression. That starts with your avatar and ends with the ability to tell a person why they should hire exactly you and nobody else.

I suggest to get more familiar with SL and improve your avatars apperance, profile and so on. And most important: Find out what you want to do. Money shouldn't be the only personal reward for you.
