Why do items reappear in my trash after I've emptied trash?

Question

I have outfits (just the titles, not the contents) that repeatedly show up in my trash.  I empty trash and when I relog, the outfit titles show up in trash again.  I've tried clearing my inventory cache and relogging, but sure enough, the outfit titles popped up in trash again.

This is probably https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-8877 which has been a problem if:

You are using Firestorm or Singularity viewer, which don't have the new inventory system yet, or any viewer with http inventory disabled.

and

You are on a RC region that has the new inventory system (AISv3) enabled, but does not have the experimental fix for bug 8877 yet.

The problem will eventually get fixed, when either Firestorm and Singularity release updates or Linden Lab fixes the sims to be better compatible with older viewers. In the mean time, you could try going to a different region to empty your trash, or using a different viewer. Someone may have more recent info, I have not heard any more for several weeks.

That's one I have not heard before!  So I am shooting in the dark here...

When you cleared your cache, did you do a MANUAL cache clear, or did you just click the Clear Cache button in the viewer?  To do a thorough cleaning job, see here: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_cache_clear

If you have already done that, or you try it and it doesn't work, try a complete CLEAN REINSTALL of your viewer: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_update_viewer

Also, I am not sure if this will help, but see here: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/stuck_folders_outside_inventory_system_folder_work-around  The previous two links will work for any viewer, not just Firestorm, with minor adjustments for file names...but this one is only if you use FS.

Finally...do you have more than one viewer installed?  If so, be sure they are not using the SAME file location for their cache.

If none of the above works, and you are a Premium member, you can request LL's help with a Support Case.

EDIT:  I think Abigail has a better take on this than I do.  You can try the above, but I bet she is right.
