how do i add friends to my friends list.

I had a friend on here a few years ago and haven't been on in a while. I can I search for someone. i don't see the menu bar that used to be on here? :o(

While in-world, press Ctrl + F. That will bring up the search menu, and you can goto people then search for the person's name.

Also make sure you have logged in under advanced mode, not basic. Its on the login screen under mode next to the login button.
