have you tried turning off http?  menu: Develop \ Http Textures & Http Inventory

i have crappy adsl connection. when it plays up then i turn http off. goes a bit slower but it hardly ever crashes or teleport fail that way

I gave that a shot and it still crashes

is a similar jira report I was mentioning earlier

    That's from 2007 on Viewer 1.18

When I use Viewer 3.2.8, I never crash when teleporting and I can
    usually
     cross sims without issue.

On V3, I used to crash often, like 2 or 3 times a day, since I switched to Exodus, I have crashed once or twice in maybe 3 months.

That's why I thought it might be your connection and not the viewer, because for me, on the same viewer, I am not having those problems that you are.

Then again, it may be my system, I don't know.

yes I know it's an older report but I'm saying the issues are the exact same

and as I said it can't be my connection, as it does it with different connections, my house,my neighbors house, the coffee shop down the street, the internet cafe across town, my family's house in another state, the chances that all those have the exact same connection problem?

btw I've also got the same problem on Viewer 3.2.8, Phoenix, and Exodus

I've also got the same problem using my computer, my neighbor's computer, and various family member's computers

(just  wish LL would bring back head tracking support in the viewers)

Several weeks ago, I learned that there are debug settings that determine the default camera positions.  Since then, I have had my camera just in front of my face.  It takes a little getting used to, but it is more immersive and I like the way it feels.

The device you describe sounds very interesting, and I want to learn more about it.

I expect virtual reality to eventually progress to the point that it is indistinguishable from reality.  Sound is there, Vision is almost there technology-wise, but the technology is not cheap enough to be widely used yet.  I think touch will come, and, eventually taste and smell. I'll try them all when they are both good and cheap.

One of the things I wonder about is what the social effects will be when virtual reality is so good we can't tell it's virtual.  We could enjoy a world created according to our desires instead of having to make do with the real world.

could you give me the info on how to do that as well? could be interesting to play with,

as for visual I'd say right now SL's graphics are just on this side of the uncanny valley, looks real enough but not too real to look creepy

oh and smell and taste are in the works it would be great plug in for the in world companies that make prim food lol

I ultimately would love SL to be fully immersible but not indistinguishable from reality, I don't think it can be actually as realistic and immersive as the graphics and haptics can get, until you see furries and vampires running around in real life youlll be able to tell the difference LOL

oh as for the device i'm using? here's the maker's website

  3. yeah I'm getting this problem too, let me guess, you are also unable to see neighboring sims, and when you try to cross sims you crash too

I've done all you have as well as well as tried different viewers, different computers, different ISPs both cable and DSL connections, different routters, different settings on both my computer and my SL viewer, clearing my cache on my computer, clearing my cache on my viewer, and none of those work

EDIT, I forgot to mention that at one poiint I did fix the problem it was when I upgraded from Viewer 2 to Viewer 3, then I stopped crashing, but then when Viewer 3.0 upgraded to 3.2 it started crashing again

  4. do the lindens reappear after a few relogs? that's happened to me on occasion, I have 500L on my account, I log in and it says I have 70, I log out and log back in and it's back to 500

don't think it's a hack, just a hiccup in the pay system

  5. been thinking about this topic and it's an interesting one to think about

I enjoy using Second Life with a vuzix video headset (i.e. VR goggles) on occasion and especially when set to Mouselook it is VERY immersive (just  wish LL would bring back head tracking support in the viewers)

also there's Xcite Touch but I wont go into the details of that here

so that brings up the question, what other haptic devices could theoretically be used with SL? could haptic gloves be programmed so you can touch what your avatar touches?

could a Kinect or a webcam map your facial expressions to your avatar?

can there be something else I didn't think of?

and most importantly if these options were availible would any of you try them out?

np I'm just chalking it up to another glitch I'm getting along with the inability to teleport or cross sims without crashing

Ugg, that really happens to you? There may be  some serious issues with your connection or something. I applaud you for stickin with it, I am constantly teleporting to and fro, if I crashed each time I would have been fed up a long time ago!
    :P

don't believe it's my connection as I've tried it at multiple locations with multiple routters, DSL, and Cable internet on multiple computers, and it's the same, I've also seen error tickets from a lot of people stating pretty much the same thing, think it'sa a viewer issue, I've had ti before and it got fixed in a viewer update, only to return in yet another viewer update, yeah it's annoying but I work through it

Well, to have a decent avatar, you're going to need a Full Avatar Pack

Not true. I never bought a full avatar - I created my avi from bits and pieces. A shape from one place, a skin from another, eyes from another, clothes and hair from tons of different places...Many people make their own shapes by wearing a newbie shape or choosing "create new shape," and manipulating the sliders. The thing with full avatars is that they're generic. Everyone has access to those kits, so lots of people buy and use them. When you create your own shape, or even buy skin and shape separately, you end up with a more unique look. (Not entirely unique, but much moreso.)

It IS a good idea to get a new shape and skin. Skins can be found at freebie stores, but good quality skins are often found in the stores of major creators, as group gifts. Many of those groups are free to join. Shapes can also be found in freebie shops, but the truth is that it's better to go ahead and create your own, or - if you don't want to create on - invest some $L in buying one. There are some good freebie shapes to be found, as well; just make sure the shape is mod, so you can edit it to be more "you."

You're right about an AO; even a cheap, simple one can go a long way towards eliminating that "newb" look.

Savior hair is also great for cheap/free hair. Clothes can be found in any number of freebie shops. And of course, the marketplace is always good for a few freebies/cheapies.

Your intentions are good, and thank you for posting to help other newbies! But some of your information is inaccurate or incomplete, unfortunately. Again, though, thanks for the helpful post!

I agree, I searched around online and found some skin template PSD files, after disecting and studying them I made my own skin and then using trial and error adjusted my shape to fit the skin, as for the rest, again trial and error until I found hair, eyes, makeup, ect that I like

finily someone who sees my point. i just thuogh of another thing too make it so we can send the sky thruogh a days and nignts cycle that actully moves with the time so we do'nt have to keep going back and setting the sky in what ever time of time of day it is. and also be able to have weather too in the day settings so we can have snow if it's snowing out all thruoghh sl or rain or hail or what ever.

You can set up your own custom day cycles.

It wouldn't be cool to make weather the same all throughout SL cause if it's snowing in Colorado it may not be in New Zealand. Also, some sims are set in space and some are deserts or tropical islands, so having the same weather for those wouldn't work.

You have some cool ideas though, just be open to constructive criticism is all. Remember too, that Second Life is a global environment, and not just a small country.

I can never get the hang of the custom day cycles, could never get them to run?

And yeah I've used the Desani weather device on my parcel for a couple of years, it works great

  9. You know this thread DID give me an idea for a product someone could make An AO system, you can load your normal AO Into it and it recognizes Linden Damage or damage from other combat systems.

when you take damage it switches your AO so that you hold your arm or limp or something until you are back to 100%

I believe some combat systems may do something like this already but a universal one would be cool
