  1. I have a 16 sq m I bought years ago that bordered a land I owned simply to prevent anyone else from getting it and putting some god-awful sign on it.  I could have derendered a sign like I did another one next to it but derendering does have the disadvantage in that you can still bump into it.  There was also the satisfaction of denying someone advertising space.

Does your friend know that Argon is the third-most abundant gas in the Earth's atmosphere? And that the word argon is derived from a Greek word meaning lazy/inactive?

Sheds a different kind of light on things. ;)

I don't think he even knew it had anything to do with welding.  Of course as I have always been lazy and inert whenever possible it worked perfectly for me.

  3. My name was chosen as a joke on a friend.  He's an internet evangelist (yes, I have odd friends in RL) and claims one time to have cast a "demon of remote viewing" out of someone and the demon said his name as Argon.  (I had no idea that the patron demon of remote viewing was also the patron demon of welding.)  Well, as that cut a little to close to RL home, I named my av ArgontheDevil in his honor.  The surname, Ormega, appeared on the list and as that sounded appropriately mafiosi, I could not bring myself to resist.

Hi fellow Bay City residents. I'm guilty of owning one of those empty parcels in Bay City. I use it for prims for my main parcel but I'd like to put a building on it that is in theme. I have a bit over 1000 prims spare ( but obviously don't want to use all of those) and the parcel is 20m x 30m canal front, no road access. Anyone have any great ideas?

A little small for an oil refinery.  Some sort of waste disposal facility would be in period but definitely industrial.

  5. The easiest solution is to use security globes and set them to instant eject and ban everyone not on the access list.  If you have parcel where you want the public to see it, such as a store, bots are not really a problem unless they fill it and make people not want to come in.  It just depends on what you are using the land for.

  6. Belli would have had a far greater impact on renters had the price for premium had not been raised and in one fell swoop removed the financial incentive for becoming premium over basic and renting. Of course I'm one of the mainlanders who took a look at Bellisaria, then looked at the covenant and said, "Hell NO!  I won't go!" and stayed with the freedom of the mainland.  I have all the community I want in Bay City without being subject to a design experiment to force it.  The price of land in Bay City means that people who own there really have chosen to own there and not spent 100,000L on a whim of the moment.  It may also mean that we are quite insane but at least we are stable and insane.

  7. "So at first the rules were the same as Mainland, but very soon thereafter they responded to a lot of feedback about how difficult it was to navigate (both on land and in the narrow waters around the houseboats) without bumping into private parcels with banlines and hair-trigger security orbs. So first they made whitelist banlines impossible -- they just can't be created -- and announced that security orbs would be disallowed except for a specific script to be supplied by the Moles, with a minimum parcel escape time and other features to minimize the disruptions caused by poorly configured security scripts. As far as I know, they haven't enforced the ban on all other security orbs as long as they comply with the restrictions. "

Which is why I have zero interest in Bellisaria.  I pay good tier for my land and I don't pay it for the convenience of the odd passerby.

  8. The Linden Homes are a perk of membership but so is 1024 tier free.  As I don't particularly care for the Linden Homes for a  lot of reasons (mostly architecture), this is, for me, just another reason not to want one.  Better to buy on the mainland and not have to be concerned about any of this.  Mainland is not that expensive, I bought a 1024 for 400L not that long ago.  To each his own.

But I will say, there are few things more satisfying than being in your living room reading the various chat groups, and having the security globe tell you that someone tried to pop in, even though you are far from a living soul, and been instantly kicked home, wherever in hell their home may be.  Instant ban just feels good.  It's like locking the door.  You don't have to let everyone in and then kick them out and lock the door after them.  This way they just don't come in in the first place and folks don't approve of that, unfortunate to be them.

  9. Just derender her walls and ignore her.  Be sure to ban her from your land and then block her.  After you have done that it is just a matter of time and waiting her out.  Once she realizes that you are going nowhere she will probably move to greener pastures.  Oh, and be a stickler about your land boundaries.  If she puts anything up that crosses them by the turning of a hair, return them.  Fly up to 4096 to make sure she has put nothing in the sky that crosses into your land and if it does return it.

Remember, you pay good tier for your land.  If she does not like it, it is her problem.

  10. I use prims.  I use only prims for a couple reasons, not the least being the only blender I can figure out is the one in the RL kitchen.

Ok, serious.  I don't like mesh.  It never quite looks right in a building and sometimes takes forever to load properly.  As far as the folks who dislike prim construction, I don't build for them.  I build for me so, frankly, I don't care what they think.

  11. About ten years ago the US Supreme Court addressed the issue and ruled that virual representations were protected speech, thus striking down all Federal and State laws on the matter.  The law may still be on the books but it cannot be enforced.
LL is making a wise business decision in its TOS, because virtual kiddie porn sets of a major PR yuck factor.  Legally they can allow it (they are a US corporation and the servers are in the US so foreign law does not apply) but they don't want to.
