Not sure it matters if the ads open to SL creators or not.

With this system, the cost per click-through seems quite high (because it's based on a real economy, creators would be competing for space with people selling RL products for 'coats', 'shoes', etc.). I don't think many SL creators will find these ad-places cost-effective (especially with everyone recommending people turn on the AdBlinkers), and having to compete with other online services for both appeal and branding doesn't sound smart.

I just can't see anyone spending $0.2 per click to
    maaaaybe
get a sale worth $2.0. It might work to steal a few eyeballs, but there's only a small group of creators who can afford to take out ads on that basis.

Actually it's closer to $2-3 per click not cents!

I have nothing against Direct Delivery - it's a great thing, simple, and very handy. However, there is one thing I would like to see if we're only going to use Direct Delivery as an option: an API for third party sites of the owner, or for scripts by the owner.

I run my own site which tracks and delivers products purchased in-world. I also sell those items on the marketplace. Currently with the magic box, I have been able to send a notification to my site when someone purchases an item on the marketplace, letting it know that the purchase was made and taking record of it. However, without that, I have no option, and my personal business site will be blind to all marketplace purchases.

Having a server script log into my account to monitor transaction history is not an option, and this is at least for me as a business owner, an important feature, since I want to be able to automatically grant redeliveries for all of my customers regardless of where they bought the product. And, I prefer to have my own record of transactions.

I'd like to see an HTTP API for both recording purchases and perhaps even triggering purchases from in-world. Otherwise, I feel like those who work like I do with a personal business site for in-world purchases and marketplace are being hampered.

it's already there. I use my own developed system for tracking sales, and I just have my ANS posting to a script on my server that records the transaction. Depending on what language you're coding in I could hook you up with some code I use.

The same way as I had previously suggested to another individual in another thread; by clicking  on the see all listings button.

I don't seem to be restricting any particular content that I am aware of. I don't have anything set to prohibit any particular maturity level. Pretty sure I'm age verified otherwise I wouldn't be able to go to all those naughty places and see all those kinky listings.

    Maybe I'm filtering foreign content.

Either way I don't know how listings created in languages other than English would factor in to the whole thing. I am pretty sure they exist.

1,785,616 matching items found at 11:30 SLT. Increasing again but still less than the approximate 2,170,000 I started at.

Ya looks like that button isn't giving you all the results. I dont know what the criteria is. maybe it's filtering out demos or something. Who knows. But ya I do what everyone else is doing and just hit search wtih nothing entered and get a much higher count.

  4. I noticed it was well. My sales dropped a lot last week, but I also noticed that after all the deletions started search was jacked all up. My textures were appearing above my furniture, which is insane. It apepars to have corrected itself though, because I got several sales notifications over the weekend and it's back to buying furniture. So it looks like maybe it is leveling itself off. most likely with all the deletions they had to reindex their database and it was throwing searches off.

  5. Definitely check out the thread someone posted about the ads I placed on Google as a test. i was completely dusgusted with what I was able to do as a merchant. Personally...I would NOT turn on ad-blocking. I don't know about you, but I want to see what's going on. I want to know if a competitors starts displaying their ad at the top of my store page, like I was able to do.

I think you must be leaving out the Adult search paramater.  I have not seen it dip below 2 million here.  In fact it bottomed out at around 2,025,000 or so for me, and has been creeping back up again slowly.  It is currently sitting at 2,031,573 on my search.

I was going to say the same thing, I've not seen it get below 2mil with all maturity ratings selected. I'd guess it's pretty much down with the deletions, it's been sitting at the same number and higher for awhile now for me. I think it will go back to slowly rising as people ad new items.

Wonders if this would really be worth the investment for many merchants.

Your 18 clicks cost $21.8 which equates to approx 5300L$, what click to actual purchase ratio would be required to provide an acceptable return that?.

Edit: Noticed you'd already questioned the effectiveness of this in your OP

I don't think it would be cost effective at all. That's why I only did it for a day to see what kind of results I would get. In fairness, to do a real test it should be done over time, but I just don't see getting that kind of sale out of a few clicks. Maybe if SL did a monthly or a per CPM charge perhaps, but definitely not a Google ad. I could see it being useful for a high volume type store like we all see the meero ads that are up right now. I'm sure that's getting a good deal, especially since it's been on the opening page as well. But for regular old merchants like myself, waste of money.

I'm going to assume you included the sacrificial virgin goat and said the proper words: "Klaatu Barada N... Necktie... Neckturn... Nickel... It's an "N" word, it's definitely an "N" word! Klaatu... Barada... N...".

Oddly enough there are no sacrificial goats, virginal or otherwise in a marketplace search.

ooohhh untapped market. I'm all over that now. Thanks Dart! ;)

I can totally see how this will become a problem with merchants. My ad showed up not only when I searched for furniture, but also when I went to the "store" home page of anyone selling what I do, especially niche keywrods like "gothic furniture" which is what I make and is one of the keywords I listed for my ad.
So....my ad was at the very top of the page of a competitors store, in fact, several competitors store.
In my opinion that's kinda jacked up and honestly would tick me right the heck off as a merchant if you're at my store but SL is promoting my competitor.

    /me gets instantly angry!

I KNEW this would happen!  I use "AdBlocker Plus," so I don't see the ads, but, I'm gonna turn it off for SL so I can see when/if some other merchants ad appears at the top of MY store!  I don't want a competitors ad at the top of my store page!  That's ridiculous, unfair and unjust.  :smileymad:

Totally agree! I don't have adblocker on and I'm glad I don't.  I did have to refresh several times to get my ad to appear, I'm assuming it has to do with the whole bid per click number I chose, which was really low, but I'm sure if it was higher it would be showing up a lot more. But I picked 3 competitors and just kept hitting refresh to see if just being on their page would do it and sure enough, all 3 showed my ad. Anyway...if it's Google ads I guess we can't complain too much because that's put out by Google and SL can't do much about that, but if they start offering their own advertising merchants and allow them to be shown on my store page, there will be rioting. :)

  10. It won't do any good to flag it. You aren't the original creator of it and they have no proof the person is doing wrong so nothing will happen. What you can do...and I have done several times, is contact the original creator and let them know what's going on. I know several people from nexusmods forums who post mods for Skyrim have filed take downs from creators here in SL.  That's about the best you can do. I'd also be interested to know the marketplace listing if you want to private message me. I have a list going that I steer clear from buying from.

Most people I know don't want to see those ads are are running Adblocker.  If Google attempts to show you the ad and it is blocked I wonder if that counts as an impression.

That's a good question. I'll submit a support question to Google and ask.

  12. I was bored. Thought I'd play around with the Google ads on Second Life. :)

I made an ad for my store in Google adwords and placed it into the network on Google Ads and did a force to only display my ads on the SL website. It was kinda funny and yes I got a kick out of searching for furniture in the marketplace and seeing my ad at the top of the page.

I can totally see how this will become a problem with merchants. My ad showed up not only when I searched for furniture, but also when I went to the "store" home page of anyone selling what I do, especially niche keywrods like "gothic furniture" which is what I make and is one of the keywords I listed for my ad. In my opinion that's kinda jacked up and honestly would tick me right the heck off as a merchant if you're at my store but SL is promoting my competitor.

Now here is the other sucky part. As a google ad, of course you only pay for actual clicks. And thank goodness...cause the impression rate to click through rate was absolute crap. You can see below that in over 27,000 impressions yesterday that I ran the ad for, it only got 18 clicks. And those 18 clicks...probably mainly consisted of my own clicks and my ticked off competitors trying to make me spend money LOL So overall...if SL starts offering advertising for merchants, I don't see it being very cost effective for us, UNLESS you go through Google Ads and only pay for what actually gets clicked on. But then again, you run the risk of competitors just trying to run your budget down.

It also got me to thinking that those paid enhancement listings are probably pretty worthless as well. I mean if they won't click on a giant banner ad in their face at the top of a page, why would they click a tiny little product image? I think I will go back to focusing on my in world sales now.

*Note: my ad is down...cause I know I would have been clicked to death today after posting this lol

  13. Ya I think they are, and it seems to be jumping around too. It went down really low for me a bit ago and then jumped back up.

I also noticed that search is TOTALLY jacked right now. I went into my own store and sorted by Best Selling items, and aside from my 2 1L items, all the rest of the items on the first page are actually items I haven't sold in well over a year. I'd say they were my worst selling items. I went a good 3-4 pages in and most of the items on those pages are holiday related (christmas) and aren't selling at all right now but are at the top of my list. Guess our sales will be crap until this is all done as well.

  14. I checked early this morning and we had 2,518,726 listings. Right now we have 2,491,898 listings. Down by almost 27,000 listings already. Won't be complete until the 19th but I'm really curious as to how many listings this is potentially going to kill off.

Take that back, down to : 2,490,906

Guess it will dwindle down slowly.

  15. It seems like a lot of the bad reviews people leave is because they didn't full read the ad. I had someone leave me a two star review after saying the product itself was great, but they wish it was less prims...prims fully listed in the ad! Kind of annoying.

  16. This is happening a lot. I don't think it's keyword related only because I had one flagged that does not have alcohol of any sort in the description or keywords..it's a table and chairs that happen to have a prop on it of a bottle of wine. In fact, technically it could be a bottle of grape juice. It doesn't actually say wine on the bottle. Yet it got flagged. With the numbers that this is happening, I find it hard to believe that someone is just that bored. I'm starting to think maybe LL is going through listings and marking them. I mean it would be easy. Just search for words like wine, beer, etc and leave it set to general and voila...every single one of those should be delisted right? Seems an awfully big list for one bored person to go through it.

Maybe we should all pick another tabu category and start flagging..make their work load a bit bigger to perhaps move them to another issue lol

I'm a bit confused, come to think of it, about what we're supposed to be looking at.   It's a bit difficult to tell from the pictures, but there seem to be a lot of prims missing from the first picture that are showing in the other two, whether distorted or not.   I'm assuming that there's only the one teleporter (or is it a pose stand?) on the lower level.

ETA -- I know the columns are looking a bit distorted in the second two pictures, but they aren't even visible in the first one, and neither is the paving and walls.   I think it's the first picture that's supposed to be showing what's wrong.

I don't think those are missing prims. I think they just decorated after showing the more empty looking one. :)
