Another thing that makes me question could it be just BOM layers is that - for instance - the LaraX does not have a smooth front so just using BOM undies isn't really modest. The outline of the parts still show. So in that case it would require an actual change to the mesh which the creator is the only who can make that change. On the other hand, if the bodies made specifically for children and teens do not have the mesh sculpted in such a way to show the 3D shape of the parts then perhaps BOM would suffice for modesty.

I think a teen avatar could still wear a body that indicates breasts are there.  The breasts just cannot be the focal point of the body and the breasts must be covered by a modesty layer -- though we still don't know how much of the breasts must be covered.  Nothing in the policy says that the modesty layer has to remove all indications of breasts.

You can't have hookers on moderate land, no matter how high up you place them

Actually you can -- as long as they don't advertise themselves on Moderate land.  A hooker can take a John to moderate land to do the deed and collect payment.  That is the "behind closed doors" part.

In the whole of Germany there is exactly *one* street where kids are not allowed, for good reason. There are lots of buildings where kids are not allowed, also for good reason. But that doesn't mean that they are not allowed in the street infront of them or in the neighboring building were no such good reasons are to be found.

No use comparing SL to RL.  SL is a virtual world and pretty much this is all about image.

Allowing child avatars on Adult land could give the impression that LL is being lax about keeping children away from adult content.

Or there's a woman on her profile with a mile long list of sex groups and in her picks she'll say she roleplays as a kid or a teen often providing the picture and backstory for her roleplay.

I do think that anyone that roleplays as a child avatar, even if not all the time, should keep their profile clean and hide any Adult groups.

One thing that bothers me though is profiles. Uggh. Someone says they do family roleplay .. say it's a male. He's got his kids in his picks and they are underage. He's in spanking groups and other sex groups or barely legal groups.

RL dads (and moms) do have sex with other adults and some are into various kinks.  Being a dad (or mom) does not mean you give up your sex life.

I don't see the problem with asking those who initiate AR's what they will use as a determining factor or factors.

Since I submit ARs sometimes, I'll answer this:  Sometimes, the profile tells us whether the avatar is a child, teen, or adult. If not, then if the avatar appears to me to be mid-teens and someplace that a teen should not be, I will AR.  I cannot definitively define "appears to be mid-teens" because it has to do with their overall look and their actions and words.

Hello, For some reason I am missing my hud for my feet. Depending on what shoe or boot I am wearing I need to change my feet either lower or higher. Well I can not seem to find my hud any where. Can someone please help me? Thank you

    What body are you wearing?

I wouldn't go around assuming that every person on the internet is a child

    Exaggeration much?

Nowhere in this entire thread, (or anywhere else in these forums) did anyone ever say "every person on the internet is a child".

For some though, if the shoe fits.

And someone makes a tattoo layer that makes the modesty part of the skin vanish... now is it still meeting the rules?  I am saying its always removable, so they need to make the rule more clear.

In my view, the original skin creator would be in compliance, but whomever wore the tattoo layer that basically removed the modesty layer would be the one getting in trouble -- if it was discovered.

    I don't really see how there's a really a grey area there.

How is it not a grey area?

If an avatar gets reported for going to an Adult region and they appear like they might be RPing under 18, then LL has to do all sorts of research to determine if said avatar is truly RPing an under 18 person or if they just "sort of" look like it but all other actions indicate they are RPing over 18.

If an avatar appears as possibly under 18, then it is not clear cut and LL must do some analysis before making a decision.

But it's the same baking operation, isn't it? The same textures bake in the same stacking order and present all at once, whether it's on a BOM mesh or the system body, right? So if you wore an alpha mask to cover the area where the modesty panels go, that would be alpha'd-out on the system body the same as on the mesh, wouldn't it? What am I missing here?

The more that I go over this in my mind, what you describe is how I thought it worked.  Wearing an alpha "layer" would all get baked along with skin, tattoo layers, undie layers, clothing layers, and universal layers.  So there should never be any way for the person to rez only showing their old system skin if they have other 'layers' on also.  ???

I was wondering how Governance could really investigate further to conclusively prove whether age playing was going on other then to go through IM logs. Is that possible? Are there server side log of IM's or are they encrypted?

The IMs are most definitely saved on the server, not encrypted (even if you have told the viewer to save your IMs to your computer).  They could have programs that scan IMs looking for certain words and then if found, a person would then have to manually read things to confirm what did or did not happen.

My understanding though is that the majority of any pedo action really happens with the chat portion being outside of SL.  So reading thru chat and IM logs would mostly be to try to determine if a child avatar intentionally went to an adult location or other things that would not be appropriate.

But again, the complete baked BOM surface—alpha mask, system skin, tattoos, texture underwear, the whole shebang—rezzes whether on mesh or the system body.

Ahh, that makes sense.  So it is really just the alpha cuts (via body HUDs) that don't rez until the mesh body does (or in extreme lag areas, might not every get applied).  I often forget that the alpha layers we wear are BOM 'layers'.

tbh idk are they bringing up teenagers so much

The reason "late teen" ages are discussed so much is because that is really the grey area in all of this.

It is almost always very obvious if someone is playing a child under the age of 15.  However for anyone playing a child 15-17, it can be hard to distinguish them from folks playing an 18 yr old.  Where the person playing the 15-17 yr old must be in compliance of the child avatar policy, someone playing an 18 yr does not need to be in compliance with that policy.

My experience is that while rezzing in before completely rezzed, I've often seen parts of the mesh body that were made invisible once the alpha actually rezzed. It's the main reason why I wear BoM undies and don't just rely on an alpha for modesty.

In thinking about this, it makes perfect sense - but had not previously occurred to me.  I will now be adding BOM undies to whichever outfits I have that were relying on a alpha layer.

It also made me wonder about my "invisible" outfit.  I checked the skin on that one, and it is a solid white skin, so even if it rezzed before the alpha took effect, there is still nothing to see.
