    Incorrect.

There are items, that you grant debit permissions to, that can allow somebody to check your l$ balance, and take your l$.

This only works when the wearer specifically activates the device so it is their choice to do so, ie consensual.

do a search on the marketplace for rlv wallet and you'll see some of these items.

That is different from RLV. You're speaking of objects that request debit permissions. Yep, those exist. Some are quite legitimate, like rent boxes and tip jars. They need this permission in order to grant refunds or share revenue with group members. Some are used by scammers to take money from you, and you should NEVER allow an object someone gives you (as opposed to something you bought) to have this permission.

RLV does not, in itself, have this "feature". The RLV wallets you mention are indeed very nasty devices, making use of both RLV restrictions (you can't take the sucker off) AND the debit permission LSL call (once you grant permission, the object can take money from you as long as it is worn/rezzed in world).

  2. Your post title is considerably different from how you explain the situation in your post.

RLV does not allow you to forcibly take $L from someone, even if they consented to that. They must (as you explain in your post) actually voluntarily send you the $L.

If you wanted to be a strict findomme, you would not get in trouble with LL if you kept a gift. All such payments are considered to be the choice of the payer.

(I'm nice too, and if it were me, like you and like Wulfie, I'd return the money. But you don't have to.)

Someone who was living next door to me in a family rp community asked me for details about my avatar, and she ended up becoming a literal clone of me which was a very surreal and rather creepy experience for myself and my friends/family members at the time.

I always thought I'd be creeped out by a LindalClone too, but I had one very hot little adventure with a new acquaintance in which I became a clone of HER. It was, a bit to my surprise, very exciting and a different take on the D/s relationship. It really puts your focus on the person you're "becoming". I'd do it again in a heartbeat, if the other person was attractive to me, and I'd be willing to swap around and be the "target" person.

If I make a display name won't resident still show up as my surname?

No, but you probably won't like the reality either.

You can have anything you want as a display name. For example, you could be Daisy Q. Duck. And you can change the display name as often as once per week. But your user name does not go away. That will still be Fezspana.resident. (Oh...and you can't use "Linden" in your display name. That's considered impersonating a Linden). Other people can set their viewer preferences to show only display names, only user names, or both display and user names. With the latter, you are labeled as Daisy Q. Duck (Fezspana). "Resident" is still used by some legacy items, but I don't think it's actually shown in the viewer any more.

  5. You can set the maximum avatar complexity you want your viewer to see in your graphics preferences. I recommend something just a bit less than "unlimited". If your performance is impacted too much, choose a lower setting.

At the accountpage this is easy to disable.

No, it's not. I just tried un-checking the "Buying L$ in Second Life Viewer" box. I clicked OK. The box disappeared, but the information for my payment method did not change, and when I opened the box again, the checkbox was still checked.

Well, whether the limitation is the hardware or the software, the practical result is the same:  There are no SL viewers for Chromebooks, and there aren't likely to be any.

My four year old remark has been overcome by events. Please ignore.

Well, I don't think sitting would be necessary since everything would be practical :v [yes no classrooms] but it won't be a rp either.

I don't think you got my point. Someone in your audience can play a trick on you and blast you into the sky. Sitting on something prevents this.

  9. However you set it up, I have a piece of advice for you, if you have never taught in SL before:

Sit on something. A chair, a poseball, a speaker's podium.

The very first time I stood up to teach in front of a class, some clown orbited me and it took me five minutes to get back to the classroom.

I see this all too often. I look for an answer to a question or a solution to a problem and see a thread that's 5 to10 years old. The comments are either no longer applicable or require an assumed knowledge of technique. A basic tenet of communication is that one should never assume that the audience has a foundation of knowledge in a subject.

Are there experienced teachers who, for a fee, can guide both new and old SL users to a practical learning of a technique or process?

    1. How do you expect us to know, 5 or 10 years in advance, what the answer to your question will be? I assure you, we answered as best as we could at the time!

    2. Yes there are, and most of them do it for free. You can find them right here in the Forums, or go to a user-run help area like Builders Brewery, NCI, Caledon Oxbridge University, or New Resident Island. Or go to Welcome Island and ask a Mentor.

Back in the days when I stopped being a lab rat* and actually did my outdoor job for a while my eyesight dramatically improved within a year.

Thank you, Fiona! I will definitely try to view distant things a lot more.

I'm a very confused person today. I blame Lindal.

Yes! It is definitely All My Fault!

Thank you so much for the lovely farewell message. While I may have taught you something, you've taught me more.

I encourage you to NOT have your account deleted as you might want to return some day

Thank you all for the kind words. I'm dropping my account to Basic but not deleting it. After all...you never know, do you? I THINK this is a final farewell, but I am definitely leaving a way to come back, if I change my mind!
