  1. lol, i got trapped once too and couldn't get out of it until i saw a tree with a poseball close by. I clicked on the ball and sat on it. Popped right out of the trap. And thanks to my handy dandy mysti-tool i was able to trap the trapper and continued to click on the trap option in the menu to keep him in there until we'd had a little chat about being courteous and civil and acting maturely. Then I tped out and the trap automatically derezzed. I also like that the mysti-tool tells you in chat when someone is approaching you and how far they are away. Also lists the closest avatars to you on your screen.
  2. After accumulating a lot of freebie stuff when I first started out by going from freebie market to market, I found that the second life market place (see the top of the page for "Shopping") also carries freebies or items that are less than L$5 and it's a much faster way to find what you want. Just set the sort feature in the marketplace page to filter the lowest to highest priced items. You will however, have to go to a sandbox (just look in your search option for the search term "sandbox or sand box" under the tab "everything") to unpack the box the marketplace items come in. It's an easy procedure: look under recent items tab in inventory for your item; drag the box from your "objects" folder and put it on the ground; right click on the box and select the "open" option; in the popup window all items inside the box will be listed, so just click on the "copy to inventory" button; after the items are loaded into inventory, right click the box again and select the "take" option which removes the box again. Done. In the meanwhile, I found that I was much more satisfied with the look of my avatar, hair, eyes, skin, shape etc. if I paid for items. In sl, you tend to get what you pay for. So I set up payment information under "My Account" with a credit card and paypal. It was easier than trying to make money by camping (sitting your avatar for hours in a shopping sim that pays you for it, so their mall looks popular) or stripping which I didn't want to do, or hosting which turned out to be too stressful and a lot of work for little return, or escorting which just wasn't my thing at all even though from what I hear the pay is good. Give the direct payment option some consideration.
  3. I do not market anything in sl and am not trying to promote anything. But I did purchase a Mystitool from the second life market place (see the shopping tab in the menu above, just put it in the search box) and it has helped me numerous times. You can lock your position so no one can toss you or move you. It has an easy to use menu with a myriad of other options, including recording your teleports for you so you can go back to places you forgot to landmark along with defensive and offensive options such as hanging onto someone to stop them or tossing them or standing on them, helps you to fly beyond your normal 500 ft option, tells you who is colliding with you, sends notecards, and lots lots more . It's been immensely helpful to me. It costs around $400 linden, but it's been worth it to me.
  4. In general when going to a sim where everyone is in formal wear, I will change immediately to fit in. But, I have to say, I think the banning of inappropriately dressed avis is excessive. Ejecting is probably to be expected, if you appear somewhere and your avi doesn't fit in with the theme or is overtly offensive. Particularly with formal dress sims. But again, imho, unless someone is obviously trying to grief the sim, I think ejecting is a little over the top, and banning is excessive. I mean, really, the saying "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" is probably the case for some land owners. Let's face it, it isn't actual real life. It's pixels, people! Yes, I know many choose to build elaborate sims and I applaud them. And I understand their drive for perfection, even down to costume wear. But the banning behavior is, again jmo, a power play and slightly obsessive. These are real people with real feelings and you are preferring pixels over people at that point. Remember, there are lots of personalities in sl, and some people who have handicaps as far as reading, even as far as comprehending things. So it seems unfair that they should be excluded as soon as they appear on the scene in different dress. And it does tend to leave a bitter taste in one's mouth regarding sl.
