  1. My main (human) avi is about my age. He's the wrong nationality but he's more or less similar to me in build and face. at first I dressed him to match my esthetics, but I noticed my 'jeans and tshirt' ideals were rather boring, so I got a little more creative. Funny thing about that, I started to like my avatar's clothing choices more and eventually over the years I catch myself shopping for similar clothing IRL. xD

My Furry avi is molded from the one above, so build is the same, but I would clock him a touch older.

I have a girl avi who is about 24 or so.

And an alt that is 26/27.

  2. It's definitely not for everyone.

The main message of DW is 'even normal people can be extraordinary'.

However the recent seasons have stepped away from that, which is a disappointment.

Firefly is a good alternative, yes. If you are looking for new shows I might recommend:

    Game of Thrones

    Hannibal

    Sherlock

    Elementary

    Supernatural

    Shameless

  3. The place I've been renting with for a little over six months is wonderful. When I asked for more prims, the landlord was very quick to find me some without me having to relocate. Also in general, the prim to L$ ratio is 1:1.

    I'm currently paying L$1,500 /w for a plot with 1495 prims.

I can't get in world right now, but search for Jason1 Draconia or Zen Land and you'll find it.

They always have plots available. c:

    Good luck!

  4. Where are you from?

US, smack in the middle of the bible belt and tornado alley.

When did you join SL originally?

Tail end of '07. Took some breaks here and there, but I've been here ever since.

What have you mainly spent your time doing in SL in the past?

Mostly RPing and working at some places. I used to build and do photography, but now I mostly sit around and decorate my house when my rp is being boring. Also hang with friends.

How are you planning to spend your time in SL in 2013?

Get better at fussing with mesh so I can make houses again (it's a slow process), rp someplace that is active and not cliquish >-> and hang with my friends more. Maybe take up working in a photo studio again, dunno yet!

  5. Pffft I feel that is the most accurate description of their pants I have seen. xD

I agree with the length being too short though. My avi is not a very tall person but it feels like I'm often buying clothing for super short people and it's a little disconcerting. However, I prefer mesh pants simply because they keep the knees looking like knees and not like something went terribly, terribly wrong.

My one wish for mesh jeans (especially skinnies) would be an option for a 'tucked in boot' look. I LOVED that with the sculpty pants I could take off the sculpt part and tuck in my pants to tall shoes or boots, but now I'm stuck hoping nobody bothers to cam my feet and see the mess that the clipping of pants and shoes has become. It's very awful.

Just a mesh pant with an option to wear in a tucked in fashion would be lovely.

  6. Basically you buy a base, which comes with a single color choice or the 'default'. Then you can fiddle about and buy new recolors/textures for your base. It's both a way to make it so you can pick and choose which colors you want, not to overload the HUD with stuff you don't want, and also a way for the creator to make more money.

Personally I like the system because half the time I don't end up buying a fatpack HUD simply because I cannot justify spending L$1k+ on many colors/patterns I don't even want. I'd rather spend in bits and pieces for the things I DO want.

  7. Hmm, really? Giant people are still the norm? o-O

I'm not sure where I'm going, but I haven't seen giant people in forever!

Well, I mean I see the occasional one with the freebie hair that was available since 08 and bling and system pants, but I feel those are just remnants of a different time.

I am a fur sometimes, but my main fur is also the same size as one of my main human shapes (actually, same shape just with animal parts xD). That one is about 6' even. I also have a giant mesh fur/demigod thing for kicks, and he's about the size most giant people are. Looks massive in my house though v___v And one tiny fur who is like, .5 meters xD

Also a girl avi who is the 5'5 I mentioned earlier.

I dunno, all my friends and random acquaintances are roughly my height or shorter. Even people I bump into at shops are the same height. Same with some rp places I visit!

Where all are you guys seeing these tall folk so often?

  8. Two skins here & here.

As for the 'everyone is nearly 7 feet tall' comment, noooo nono oononbljbnv xD

Back in the day, up till early 09, yeah. Everyone had a bad case of the amazon figure.

But nowadays, you're much more likely to come across people who are more 5'4 - 6'4.

My two main avis are 5'5 and 6'0, and even then I feel a little tall around a lot of people.

But like someone already said, you're better off finding a shape with a nice face and editing that how you like it, if you cannot make a shape from scratch.

  9. So I get into my comp class, and I squint at the screen because I see this on the desktop:

    oh no.png

    And it's on everybody's computer.

So this is just me formally apologizing if anyone from my school happens to come on here at the last minute to post a survey.

    Goodness.

  10. Well, besides that totally not being okay to trace over someone's stuff, uh.

If you wanna trace over a screenshot you took of your avi/yourself for a cartoon effect that's fine.

Just be careful you aren't tracing a copyrighted work you found on the net someplace.

For future reference, don't outline things with the 'pencil' setting, use a hard round default brush instead in a smaller size.

Also, when putting in the color, don't do it on the same layer as the outline, or you're going to get that terrible halo effect you can clearly see on the hair. Make a new layer and put ALL of the color on it's own layer under the lines you've made. Make a layer for the hair, the jacket, the skins, etc. It makes it much easier to edit later on to have things separate.

The choice of thick outlines and thin inner lines is a good start for stylizing, but maybe try to make the outlines match closer to the base color of what they are around - ie, dark brown for the outline of the brown hair and a dark pink for the shirt. It gives a piece a much softer look and is generally more pleasing to the eye. Especially for a non-shaded piece like this.

  11. While it would be nice to have improved searches, it's also just as easy (at least if you keep up with it) to organize your inventory in a system that makes sense to you that will eliminate the need to search for anything.

For me, I just use the subfolder within subfolder method.

IE, in my clothing folder, I have some of the following:

    Tops

    - Short Sleeves

    a. blouses

    b. tshirts

    c. undershirts/tanktops

    - Long Sleeve

    a. jackets

    b. button ups

    c. dress shirts

    - Underwear

    a. casual

    b. pretty

    c. swimwear

    Bottoms

    - Pants

    a. shorts

    b. capris

    c. jeans

    d. leggings

    - Skirts

    a. long

    b. short

    Shoes

    - heels

    - boots

    - sneakers

    - sandals

    Accessories

    - hair

    - jewelry

    - various attachments

    ----

Basically this system lets me find things based on the search terms that you seem to like. I have some things like 'tshirts' organized by collar style and color! It takes a while to set up but if you keep up with it, it saves so much time when you find yourself looking for something.

Also I have multiple avis with many genders and species, so I do this for each 'style' of avi I have. xD

  12. The new mesh house from Apple Fall/Scarlet Creative (marked as Scarlet Apple) is fab. I have it and it's probably one my fav builds I own. And I own a lot of houses!! Can get it here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/8%208/88/188/889

There's also the Foxtail lodge here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Fresco/172/167/36

Otherwise, I think something from Scarlet Creative might work for you if you have a look around! http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Vanilla%20Twist/189/130/24

    Good luck. ^^

  13. The issue with full mesh or mesh attachments on avatars is they get very limited when it comes to fitting clothing on them.

I have a few furry mesh avis and both are doomed to wander around naked (or with sculpted accessories lol) unless the creators wants to make custom made clothing for them. Some do, but most don't, so be careful about that!

As far as the body type you are trying to achieve, I've seen larger prim attachments for bellies & hips before floating about the marketplace, but as they are sculpted prims, they will not move naturally like a real stomach would. Mesh would be a better alternative here, but again, you'd have to buy clothes from the creator of that part unless they made it possible for other creators to make 'appliers' to their items.

On the appliers  note, there are a large line of mesh breasts out there now, and honestly I'd recommend Lolas because they seem to be rather popular and also have a lot of people already making clothing that works with the styles out right now. They also have a more 'naturally large' rather than 'implant' feel about them. Plus you won't be doomed to wander around naked.

When it comes to the overall shape, I suggest trying to do it with the sliders first, and if you can't create the look you are going for, start adding on pieces. Just make sure you can find clothing for them!

  14. I know. I'm just irritated that a lot of people come on here asking for a lot of work for pennies.

But I digress. The OP would have a good chance of finding something that works somewhere on the marketplace.

I think this fits your request?: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/The-Langston-Brownstone-Family-Prefab-Home-Introduction-Promo-Price-99L/3334858

    These is nice: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/KS-Two-Storey-House/4322090

    This has a pool: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Modern-House-5-Bedrooms/3800666

Also a good way to find cheap housing is to look for promos.
