  1. If you were expecting a 'free starter kit' to look gorgeous, then you must not realize most people who make things in sl are here to make a little money. The fur things in those kits are generally things that have been around since '07-'09 and as such, they look terrible.

Though since you're new, you also might have been wearing them all, which in a starter kit, is never really a good idea since it might contain multiple copies of similar items (several different tails or ears, for example). Your best bet is to join some furry groups and ask around for GOOD freebie items. A lot of people in the fur community (myself included) enjoy helping newcomers out. If you feel like you might want to come back, shoot me a message and I'll get you started.

As for the sinking into the ground thing, that's fairly new. LL released an offset height thing for shapes so if you're shorter or taller than usual via a deformer or a mesh avi, you won't sink into the ground. If your shape is mod, right click yourself and hit edit shape, go into the body tab and go down to the bottom. You'll see something like offset or whatever. It should be at 50 for default. Change it to 51 or 49 (whichever is better) and save. You might sink again, but it should sort itself out.

  2. My 5 cents.

Just because YOU don't personally get bothered by hate directed at you online, DOES NOT MEAN other people don't.

You can't just generalize or tell them to 'get out of the kitchen'. They could very well be in a place they feel is safe, and suddenly one day log in to hate in their inbox. If they were already feeling down that day (as many teens & even adults are with stress and homework and responsibilities and relationships) and they get on to see something even as simple as 'why don't you go kill yourself Bi*** nobody likes you anyway' - don't you think that will dampen their mood? Even if they claim to be 'too tough' and able to 'shake things off'??

I usually don't give a crap one way or the other, but on SL I got my very own badmouther who followed me to my tumblr (my safe place) and would leave me daily insults and threats and hate. The first few times I felt embarrassed and alarmed, but even after I tried ignoring it and deleting the messages, I would come back to the words said when I was upset about something unrelated and find they still hurt, somehow. I knew he could never do any real harm, but those messages haunted me for months. If I wasn't such a happy person, I could easily take these to heart and never get them out of my head and maybe eventually believe them.

On topic: I think this law has good intentions, but it won't end up working out, even if just based on the logistics of having to go through so much code to remove the child's posts.

  3. I found I had this problem after wearing a mesh avatar and changing without relogging.

Many all-mesh avis have a deformer that will squish your avi's shape all sorts of wrong ways, and even if you look okay otherwise when you take it off, things like this happen.

Unruthing didn't help me, unfortunately, because I was caught messed up  no matter which avi I put on. I found several relogs didn't help either.

The only way I was able to fix that specific issue was to clear cache and wait for everything to load while my avi drowned at the bottom of Smith.

This is probably not the ONLY way to fix it for SURE, but it's the only way I was able to get rid of that issue. Now, whenever I put on a mesh avi and want to take it off, I change into my regular avi and relog to avoid awkward stretching I might not be able to see on my end or the eyepop thing.

  4. I collected quite a few couple poses recently for an M/M photoshoot, and honestly?

There are very few poses designed for JUST M/M avis. Quite a few of the M/F poses and F/F poses will work fine, however. Your best bet is to go to the MP, creep around stores who have nicer couple poses, tp to their in world store, and test these poses out to see what works and what doesn't. (try to stay away from breast-centered poses because it looks a little...strange on flat chested avis pfft)

Keep in mind most poses are able to be edited so you can unlink or just edit the poseballs to move around your avis to make it fit better. I found myself having to do heavy editing even though the avi I sat on the 'girl' poseball was shorter than the other who took the male poseball (generally - sometimes I found a pose and felt the roles needed to be switched - the beauty of poseballs!)

I haven't checked the MP in a while, but I can say for the most part, most stores have some couple poses worth checking out. Good luck!

  5. As Dres was saying, because of the user-created base of SL, there is simply NO WAY to have it run as smoothly as other online MMOs. None of the locations are able to prerender on your system because they change too often, and contain unique graphics/textures. If you frequent a sim, your computer will download these textures into a cache, and when you tp there, it will load rather quickly than compared to a place you've never been with textures your computer has never loaded.

In other MMOs, they have a set amount of textures present in the game and when you install it, all the textures are loaded upon logging in/starting the game up. In SL, textures do not work that way at all, and thinking they do is just incorrect.

I'm also not saying LL is overcharging or not because I just rent, but the massive amounts of server space needed for all these user generated textures and meshes and sculpts and animations and audio clips and LITERALLY EVERYTHING costs money.

With other MMOs they only need enough space to host a users (already predefined and limited) inventory and the info needed to identify their account and character specs. This plus the info loaded onto a player's computer makes for a smooth running game and faster gameplay.

SL does not and will never work like this. Also please, please stop comparing SL to MMO rpgs because SL is not a game in the traditional sense. It is a virtual platform and should only be compared to other such things. Apples and oranges and all that.

Also protip: if you don't like the pricing DON'T PAY WOW WHAT A REVOLUTIONARY IDEA

  6. I've got a quad cat and fox I wander around in on occasion. I still talk and shop and explore and do normal things. Nothing much is different.

I also have a Raptor because I'm partial to them however he's kinda huge so I don't take him out so often.

    I say go for it!

  7. The skins and shapes are totally separate from each other. Meaning you can put any skin on any shape and call it a day. HOWEVER, a shape will very much change the way the skin looks.

If you want to create a feminine male, I highly suggest you start on a FEMALE shape, and add in a femboy skin over that. This way you can make much curvier hips/butt, and the face can be much rounder and therefore more feminine. It's also 100% possible to create a femboy on a male base, it just takes a touch more tweaking. And on the female shape, you have to get the breasts flat, but many times that can be a pain.

I don't know where to buy specifically femboy anything, but if you searched this on the marketplace, you'd be off to a good start. As for clothing in general: http://feeds.sl/ & for male clothing: http://malefashionfeed.info/

However if you make a male on a female base, you might be better off getting clothing for ladies (if mesh) as it will fit your avi better. At least stuff for the bottom half, depending on how curvy you make the shape.

  8. As with many fads, they sort of dropped off the face of sl and I haven't really seen too many anymore. I'm sure they are still around, but compared to the multitudes I used to see, very few are left

However if you search 'neko' and filter to just places, you're likely to find something.

  9. As already stated, I think the majority of the issue stems from malformed starter avis and simple ignorance of typical human proportion.

Very few are technically trained to learn proportions, nor do most have an eye for it at all.

They think elbows that only come to their ribcage (or, god forbid, their nipples) are perfectly fine and don't look crazy because they don't know any better and nobody told them any different. (protip: elbows line up with your belly button, wrists with your crotch, fingers with mid thigh!) A lot of people are afraid to slide their arm lengths passed 50 when really they should be upwards of 70+, what with the trend of overly long torsos and legs. (ie: t-rex syndrome)

Then we have the guys wandering around with their arm muscle sliders at 100 looking like gorillas and everyone just acts like they don't see how hilarious and malformed they look so they assume they look totally fine (they do not - however if the avi mesh wasn't so outdated, they might look a little better with arms that had muscles in the right places, but we can only wish). Don't even get me started on the leg muscles mesh because everything makes me super angry when it comes to how awful the legs look. LL, knees do not and have never looked the way they do jfc

  10. Society teaches men that woman are to be treated as pretty canvases (read: objects) on which they should project their desires

Women learn their bodies are not their own at a young age and therefore they must take time to make their bodies desirable for men, or else they are worthless and serve no purpose

Breasts are literally lumps of fat attached to chest muscles. There's some tissue in there that can produce milk when the right combo of hormones hit .... what's sexual about any of this? It's gotten so bad that female nipples are treated as sexual even when male and female nipples are formed before any genitalia is finished coming in on a fetus?????? uM

Ladies like showing off their tatas because it makes them feel good about their body image because now they are desirable to men (or other woman) and therefore feel like they have more self worth, or that they are deserving of such

Or, y'know, system breasts don't really look all that great in terms of curves and while Lolas are about as fake looking as the day is long, at least they have a slightly more rounded shape that isn't all octagon sitting on your chest.

  11. Very true!

However another problem lies in the sizes of mesh clothing offered. My little waif of a child is wearing size L.

LARGE. And most only go up to XL. When you edit the avi's body fat to get the softer curves, that isnt covered by the mesh and all sorts of bad happen.

  12. Untitled-1.png

I have some larger ladies up top for refs of how legs work.

Below I took what I generally have for my lady avi. Next to that, I've added a healthy amount of body thickness, body fat, and leg muscle. Notice how the knees barely change, how WRONG the calves look? The thighs here are nearly twice as large as before and yet when I stood up, my avis legs still were not touching. The real ladies above look A+ to me, yet the mesh here forces weight in the strangest of places on the avi and it just looks awful.

With the furs, I've seen an influx of wide hipped and thick thighed mesh bodies - both male and female. And they do the look well and realistic (as far as anthros go).

If there was a way to fix the LL avi mesh so the legs could look more naturally curved like these here, I have a feeling we'd get at least a few more 'plus sized' ladies on SL.

  13. I've seen this same issue with the thighs circulating on tumblr, but instead the people on there are like "what is the purpose of the thigh gap? DO I STICK MY DRINKS IN THERE?" in a way to kinda, poke fun and show the body shaming issues the thinspo blogs create.

On SL it's pretty much impossible to have a well proportioned avatar WITHOUT a thigh gap as the larger you make the legs, the more disgusting the avi mesh looks (KNEES DONT WORK THAT WAY, LL). I don't know where this 'invisible pony rider' thing came about but I have a feeling it sprung from this.

As for the fish lips...I'm trying to find the most appropriate term for this but alas...let's just say they want 'dsl' because apparently that's sexy and leave it at that.

  14. Okay so the MP is just a big dumb and apparently it's impossible to look for just skin anymore WHY THIS

But anyway I'm looking for a very specific look and it's a pain without being able to filter.

I am creating a FtM character for rp, and I need to find a MALE skin that is not ripped with muscles, has a softer face - but still generally masculine, and the kicker - THIS CHARACTER IS BLACK. Not caramel, not white-skin-tinted-to-look-black (that's just BS), but like, y'know, actually black and on the darker end.

Are my wishes a lost cause? If anyone could help point me in the general direction at stores that offer black male skins that aren't like, body builders, I'd be so happy. I'll even remove my 'needs to be darker' thing if there's something good out there in a lighter tone.

My main concern is the ridiculous muscles (this character is still transitioning and getting muscle mass like that takes way too much time that he hasn't had yet!!), and a face that is constructed with the proper features - higher cheekbones, THE RIGHT NOSE SHAPE (WHY DO PEOPLE MAKE SKINS WITH CAUCASIAN NOSES???), softer brow.

Thank you sorry for the mini rant I'm just grumpy skdfhgbcnl

  15. I find the best way to work through this feeling is to update all at once. Get a new skin you adore, and with that skin, tweak the shape, get new hair, buy some new outfits, maybe fix up your ao, whatever.

I've recently changed an avatar I had (my main) for nearly 3 years, with only updating a skin when one presented itself (it's hard to find a young looking face and non-muscular stomach for boys v___v) which was very rare.

I recently got him an all new skin, added on a freckle layer that I was used to from my very first skin!! got him a new hair COLOR (I only ever had him in black with a red streak in his bangs - he's ginger now wow) and new ears/piercings, a few new outfits, new stands in my ao, everything.

It took me a moment to get used to seeing orange hair but with the total overhaul I found it easier to adapt to the new look as a whole, not just stressing over a new skin and that's it.

  16. As an artist who has at one time gotten art 'stolen' (the person reproduced a scene I had drawn with multiple characters and merely drew their own characters in, keeping body types and generally the expressions the same as my original) I can say that this is a HUGE offence.

My advice to you if you are unable to create poses and things from scratch is do what someone else suggested, and redraw a picture someone took of their own avatar in your style. This way they are giving you the 'rights' to copy the pose/lighting/whatever and there isn't anyone to be offended.

Do NOT find pictures on google and act like they are for public consumption, because they AREN'T. If you must, go to deviantart and go to the stock images and find some poses there for reference.

Looking at RL will only help you. Looking at other people's art with their own styles which may skew anatomy will only hinder you. For example, when I draw young males, I like to give them wider hips than necessary - this is a stylistic choice that is not true to RL anatomy. And if you copy from anime drawings you're gonna be in for a surprise when you figure out how the human body works!

Practice until you learn how to do things on your own. We all have to start somewhere, and art theft is NOT a place to start.

    Good luck!

  17. Oh I've tried on many of those, too!

But the problem is he's not based on a female shape, so he doesn't really have any hips to speak of.

Girl's shorts will fit his hips at size S, for example, but they will clip through his thighs and his butt.

I move up to M and his thighs and butt are a-ok, but I check the hips and those shorts are floating!

Plus girl shorts don't exactly make room for, well, anything up front. haha

  18. I've been looking and looking and I cannot find shorter mens shorts to save my life!

All of the ones I see are knee length, but the way my avi is put together, I like to show some of his thigh to show off my color pattern (on my fur). And the knee length shorts just hide everything. :c

I'm talking about lengths like these dumb high fashion things only y'know, denim or calm patterns w/e - "normal".

I already have the cheerno shorts tho - they are pretty much the right length for example!

    thanks~
