  1. 1,0GB ram, Mobile Intel®  945

    That.

1 GB RAM is the bare minimum to run a computer at all. And those old Intel onboard graphic chips are not supported by SL at all. I started with a similar system on SL in 2007 and even back then my experience was terrible. And nowadays SL needs much more ooomph on the client side. As a last ditch effort you could try to run a lightweight Linux distro, as they are famous for giving old hardware a "second life" kindasorta. That should at least get rid of the BSOD problem ... but don't expect to get much joy out of that old hardware piece.

  2. 3,59Mbit download and 0,13Mbit upload

According to typical ADSL standards you should have an upload speed of roundabout 0.35Mb. That's not great but should be ok-ish as long as you don't use stupid voice crap. THat's a killer on a slow connection like yours, almost as bad as if you're downloading a movie while busy in SL. Upload speed of 0.13 is unacceptable. There is definately something wrong at the local exchange. Complain at your ISP! Ask them to redesign your port, not just resetting it. And check your router/modem stats. Maybe it's time to invest in a newer and better one.

  3. bad upstream network connection

Ya, it could be bad/slow upload. Please conduct a speedtest and see if your upload is beefy enough. Contrary to normal surfing SL demands good connnection in both directions. Best do the speedtest to Dallas/TX. And to make sure it's not the viewer, please do a reinstall ... and for god sakes always plug your computer into the router and avoid wifi.

  4. It's not a glitch per se, it's part of the update cycle of the worldmap. Ever built a house? It might take up to 2 days before it shows up in worldmap. If you wanna see the dots of ppl who are actually on any given parcel use the minimap since it updates much faster, almost in real time.

  5. WOW! And I always thought here in SA we're 100 years behind. Telkom just recently switched from tribal drums to real servers after homing pigeons weren't a good replacement for modern communication. :smileyindifferent:

Anyway, in your case it sounds like it's actually your individual wiring that's the major bottleneck. Now all you gotta do is finding out who's responsible for the upkeep of it. I guess the telephone company. So launch some complaints and ask them to replace it or else.

BTW, the age of your computers doesn't have anything to do with the quality of your connection.

  6. AMD Radeon HD 8550G

The AMD Radeon HD 8550G is a processor graphics card in the AMD Richland APUs (for example, the A8-5550M). It offers only 256 VLIW4 shader cores vs. the 384 shader cores of the 8650G. The 8550G has no dedicated graphics memory and shares the main memory with the CPU cores.

The integrated UVD3 video decoder allows for full decoding of Multi-View Codec (MVC), MPEG-4 Part 2 (DivX, xVid), MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 and Adobe Flash HD videos.

According to its clock rate range of 515 - 720 MHz (or 554 - 720 MHz in an A8-5557M), performance should be only a few percentage points above a Radeon HD 7640G. Thus, the Radeon HD 8550G performs similarly to a dedicated Radeon HD 7570M. Without fast dual-channel memory, however, performance drops dramatically.

The shaders of the chip can also be used for general computing.

The APU is manufactured in 32nm and is rated at a TDP of 35 W. This allows the chip to be used in notebooks from 13- to 14-inches or larger.

    That's from the notebookcheck site.

    Intel HD Graphics 4600

The Intel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2) is a processor graphics card included in some of the Haswell processors of 2013. The base clock can be automatically overclocked using Turbo Boost technology.

Depending on the processor model, the base and turbo clock rates may differ greatly resulting in varying graphics performance between CPU models.

In comparison to the HD 4000, the graphics core has been modified extensively. The GPU supports DirectX 11.1, OpenCL 1.2 and OpenGL 4.0. It also features an improved decoder for 4K videos and the fast Quick Sync encoder.

According to Intel benchmarks in 3DMark 11, the HD Graphics 4600 will be up to 60 percent faster than the previous HD 4000. In our gaming benchmarks, however, the improvement was only about 30 percent. This performance boost is achieved by architectural improvements and an increased number of execution units: The GT2 version integrates 20 EUs, compared to 16 EUs for the old HD 4000. Thus, the HD 4600 not only matches some dedicated GPUs such as the GeForce GT 620M/630M, but also competes with the fastest integrated AMD GPUs like the Radeon HD 8650G.

Due to the 22nm 3D Tri-Gate production process, power consumption should be relatively low. The HD Graphics 4600 can be found on dual- and quad-core Haswell models in the 37 - 57 Watt TDP range.

And that is also from notebookcheck. I really have no idea what's better, pestilence or AIDS but for me both solutions are inacceptable.

  7. System: Windows 7 (ACER X1900)

    Processor: Pentium® Dual-Core CPU E5700 @ 3.00GHz (2CPUs), 3.0GHz

    Memmory: 3072MB RAM

    DirectX: DirectX11

    VideoCard: Interl® G41 Express Chipset

Oy Lansman, your desktop is an old and weak office warrior, nothing for multimedia or gaming. The onboard Intel chip isn't even regarded as a proper graphics card and not supported by LL.

2 ways for you to fix it, both don't come for free:

    1) bring your Acer riffraff to the next computer store and ask them to beef it up with a good graphics card. Nvidia GTX series, no less. They will prolly tell you that the PSU must be upgraded as well. And a bit more RAM and a faster CPU wouldn't hurt neither. And for the new GPU and CPU you need a new mobo and and and ...

At that point in time you probably start to wonder if it makes sense to heavily invest in the resurrection of your low quality box and might tend to solution 2) buy a new machine! From the specs it sounds like your poor compi is around 6, 7, maybe 8 years old and needs a replacement anyway. Give it to your kidz, grannies or the next homeless shelter or use it yourself as a surf station or Linux testbed.

  8. Oy, Sheree, those stats are shocking! :smileysurprised:

fps 3.3?? Bandwith 21kbps??? Ping 1261msec??? My bandwith to SL is often low as that but I still get way better fps. Are your graphics set up correctly?

    The ping is awful tho.

I know for a fact that many ozzies have very good interwebz konnekshuns. Are you living in the sticks maybe?

And copper is stil good, dontcha worry. I'm on stable 8MB down speed on my 30 years old copper telephone line. You can have ADSL2+ with up to 40 MB or so on old copper lines, depending on the infrastructure of the last mile.

So I guess it's your ISP or the phone company to blame. Contact them asap and ask them to recreate your port and increase your speed to the maximum possible. Best have a techie sent out to your home to check it first hand. If the infrastructure in Australia is anything like in South Africa your ISP and your last mile provider are 2 different entities. Here the last mile is always covered by the state-owned Telkom, so your ISP (bandwith reseller) is not to blame. Unload all your **bleep** onto the guys who are responsible for the wire from your house to the next streetbox/local DSLam.

Also ALWAYS plug your computer into the router. Wifi might be good for everyday surfing but can be killer for SL.

  9. SL has mainly just established the basic capitalistic level: Trade with the help of an exchangemedium, also known as money.

Yes, agreed. It's a very simple, easy to grasp system, that only works in virtual but there it does all the better.

Thats why I think SL is not the place that needs "improvement" in the shape of a systemchange.

I don't think it does neither.

Of course I wouldn't say no to a free full-sim, but the OP would break out in tears, because I would at least build a tiny club on it.

\o/ Gimme my sim! \o/ And of course OP would cry if anybody of us showed the least little bit of entrepreneurial spirit. That's why I'm so opposed to his whining.

  10. it would be interesting if any Communist country would make a virtual world for the benefit of their citizens

China did it. They created the virtual world HipiHi already long ago. I have no clue if they are stil around but I know it was an almost absolute SL clone.

but I think that they have other priorities for their people, like food, shelter, medicines.

Yes, that's why it's so much more desirable to live in a country with some social conscience.

  11. Hey Syo, please don't blame OP's shortcomings on my small shoulders. he dug himself in so deeply I'm much too weak to dug him out again. Afterall I guess it's established by now that he is nothing but an apprentice griefer. :smileyhappy:

The reason why I won't go deeply into socialist idealism is simple. I could write books on the subject but those would definately be in german and therefor of only limited use for most forumites. Also such a discussion would be very much above the basic comprehension of an average internet forum user. So all I could do was to quickly shut up that guy since he has no clue what he's talking about.

In now ay did I intend to support his POV ... if he has any.

PS: I don't know where you are from. But if you happen to be from the USA there is surely no need for me to explain the ideals of socialism since you learned all about it in school. Else why would a majority of US citizens be so biased against communism/socialism/social democracy it if they knew **bleep** all about it or only got their info from Fox news?

  12. If someone has verifiable information to the contrary I would love to see it.

No, Perrie, no contradicting information. And, same as you, I tend to open multimedia streams whenever I feel like. In 7 years on SL I haven't caught a virus yet. What I did though, rather stupidly clicked a link to some questionaire that promised some L$ for filling it in. That was stupid since my L$ account was emptied swiftly and I also was suspended by LL. After complaining and telling them that I'm not the fraudster they let me back in and also recovered my money from the original bad guys. Well, that was years ago (08 I believe) and was a wake up call and ever since that  day I employ my little brain before clicking on  anything.

  13. Hey all, this was a  long and boring thread to read so I just glossed over it. But let me get back to the OP for now. particularly some points that need to be addressed:

The header line already contains some factual errors. Communism on SL CAN'T be realized. LL is a for-profit- organization and based on that very simple fact your whole premise has no groud  to stand on. A revolution can't be done in SL. Revolution against what? SL isn't a country, SL has no government to speak of. All we have is the dreaded TOS. We can dislike it but then our only choice would be to leave SL. That's fact!

As much as I personally have a fondness for socialism I still hate communism. At least the so-called falsely labelled communism we know from some bad RL examples. And as long as a big part of the SL population still holds on to their wrong stereotypes and is so brutally against anything with the word social in it, you can't expect the "opressed masses" of SL residents to stage a uprising of any sort.

SL is more or less a free world, regulated by an absolute regime, and as schizophrenic as it sounds, it seems to work somehow ... on a very goofy level. So I can't subscribe to your cause since it lacks any foundation.

A short word for the various haterz of commandante Guevara and comrade Chavez and other visionary cummunist/socalist leaders: you guys suck!

You're so deeply stuck in a wrong belief system one can only pity you. These people fought  for a better world and were stopped by either natural causes (Chavez) or in the bullet hail of some CIA puppet regime's army (Guevara). That doesn't mean they failed. That doesn't make you bullies the winners. It only shows that the USA was stronger at that point and denied the world something much needed. In the case where a leader luckily escaped various assasination attemps, Castro, they succeeded big time. Castro fought and won over a fascist regime and has managed all the years to feed his population, despite the best efforts by the USA to cut Cuba off all trade and starve the people. Same goes for Mao's China, same goes for the USSR and same goes for Vietnam. You didn't win, they didn't fail. The USSR destroyed itself from the inside, the others are doing well. So well indeed, China owns the USA these days. But they somehow have no use for such a disorganized and lazy muppet show of a country, so they let you guys still roam freely. In the end they need you as a marketplace. Let's see what happens once you've given the gold reserves back to Germany, if you're able to. :smileyindifferent:

  14. I found my favorite one at Belleza.

Yeah, Tricky Boucher is regarded as one of the best skin makers by many bloggeristas. Obviously for some reason. I loved my Belleza skin for a while but became tired of the very dark complexion of  mine.  Am now more than happy with [the skinnery] skins. They are perfect for the slightly tanned northern european girl and look great with almost no makeup on them. Cool for the natural action girls which don't spend all their time in clubs and ballrooms.

As for shapes I have to admit to my shame that I'm indeed on a commercial one. Was a gift by my ex-wife she gave me since I loved the face. But the shape was much too tall, had much to much bust and the knees were a bit knocked, aka x-legs. So I totally modded that shape and ended up with a much too big head. So I started modding the face as well and now there's nothing reminding of the original expensive shape left anymore but the fat lips. :smileyhappy:

  15. If I can hazard a guess here:

Seeing what seriously underpowered hardware most residents are using in SL (particularly on the graphics side) I guess the finer nuances of skins and shapes are lost on many people anyway.

  16. i'm not creeping. i'm just having a look. the same way you have a quick look at someone with an interesting outfit in real life.  creeping would be if i followed them around or peeked into dressing rooms.

Ok, good and fair. It sounded a bit different in your OP. I look around a lot, I zoom in on other avies, I open their profiles, I do all that but I won't call it creeping neither. I don't care if my head is turning towards the person I'm looking at and have no idea what crosshairs are ... after 7 years in SL, go figure. Well, I hardly ever go to clubs or concerts, so I didn't meet anyone yet complaining about it. Oh, and I don' even know if someone is looking at me or not. So it's always a surprise when someone IMs me to congratulate me on my profile.

BTW, what you describe further down is known as stalking.

  17. i was a computer freak

Sorry, but I highly doubt that, Olivia. Else you wouldn't ask about viruses but you'd know what to do to avoid 'em. Particularly on a Mac since they are basically Unix (BSD) machines and hardly susceptible for all the stupid windoze virae. Oh, and by the way, no serious computer freak would ever be seen alive with a Mac and no computer freak would call SL a game.

But, to make it short: No fear, downloading any viewer from official sources is save. SL is a kinda save environment and viruses can't damage your hardware, however weak it is. Big computers can catch a virus in the same way like a tiny little laptop, it's all in the software. Hardware has nothing to do with it. Nuffin' at all.

You probably caught the viruses when pirating music from those other sites you mentioned, or when clicking unreflectedly on websites and links or opened email from unknown senders. Be aware, be vigilante, the best antivirus software sits between your ears!

PS: if you wanna be 99.999999% sure to not catch a virus, install Linux and just go your merry way. It's what I, and many other SL resis, did. As a result I don't have to worry about my installation anymore. I don't have any antivirus software installed and not even a firewall (apart from the hardware firewall in my router). As a side effect Linux will even keep our enemies the NSA at bay.

  18. So you  replied to yourself and made some ignorant assumptions about yourself. OMG, if that wasn't the most stupid post I've seen today ... :smileysurprised:

Further, if that undecipherable wishywashy was in fact directed at me, I'm not judging people who might need your bot service, I just can't figure out what for they'd need it. Everybody is free to spam their own groups as much as they fancy, but for that one won't need a bot. So the spam bots are only useful for spamming groups you don't own. And I've seen and witnessed those spam attacks  often enough to know what a negative impact they have on the integrity of the group and how disturbing they are for the members.

Couldn't figure out the rest of your "arguement" so I'll leave it at that.
