There's quite a few mesh hairstyles on SL Marketplace, including free demos.

I got the same message yesterday. I use the latest Beta version of the official LL viewer, so it's not just a Phoenix / Firestorm issue.

SL is a cartoon that isn't supposed to look 'real.' As certain helpers or advisors are fond of telling me whenever I complain about the deficiencies of SL, if you want things to look more real, press ctrl Q & go outdoors. Jeanne Yes, but I'm sure most people would like to see greater realism as time goes by. On the other hand there's no point in making super-real avatars if their realism is much greater than that of the surroundings.

Just supposing Second Life economy has shrunk, then it would hardly be surprising, and it wouldn't necessarily be down to Linden Lab either. The recession is still on, most people are watching their money still, probably even more so. I've cut my SL spending down because my RL income is less. Another thing is possibly that many people from SL'sgreat registration boom of around 2006 / 2007 (and who have stayed in SL) have gone past the stage where they need to keep shopping etc. Oops - did my robot alt really say all that? I couldn't have put it better myself! I can see one typo though. (Conifer Dada)
