[Other People's Objects Overlapping One's Land]

This must be a perrenial issue in SL, but despite being in SL two and a half years......and owning and renting out land......what to do is not at all clear.

OK...so I bought a nice parcel of land. Even has a little bit of beach. It was only about 15 minutes AFTER I bought it.....that I noticed with horror, up at 69 meters something that looked like the obelisk from 2001.  A 40 meter long large prim......almost half of which is actually overlapping and on my parcel !  It is actually directly above where I wanted to place a nice villa to rent out.

Well....nobody minds too much if the odd tree branch or whatever overlaps their land. But who the hell wants the obelisk from 2001 every time they look up ? I cannot remove it, as although almost half of it is on my land........the center of the large prim is in the absolute garbage tip of a parcel ( owner has allowed anyone to dump anything ) next door.

So....I filed a ticket about it.  No response.  I then looked up what I could do in terms of filing an AR. There is a clear category of 'Disturbing the peace' via 'littering'......so I filed an AR. No response...well at least not in the 4 days since I filed it.

Hmm. Here's Lindens trying to entice noobs with Linden Homes. I wonder how many noobs would put up with a huge great obelisk shaped prim hovering over their shiny new house ? Doesn't seem to matter if the rest of us...who have been paying Linden's salary for some time, have to put up with it.

IMHO......such a level of deception and deliberate entrapment from a person could itself be said to be a violation of TOS.

A person who is deliberately setting themselves up to be 'sexually harrassed' is the true harrasser, and is also guilty of deliberate attempt to 'disturb the peace'......insofar as any willful attempt to create drama where there was none is a disturbance of the peace.

I do recall there was a voice blog by one of the Lindens, back when Zindra was being discussed, in which the issue of wilfully false abuse reports was mentioned.....and it was stated by one of the Lindens that under such situations Lindens were just as likely to take action against the accuser. That would be a welcome policy change.....and one we really ought to see in writing somewhere.

The single most practical thing you can do is take a look at your 'Avatar Rendering Cost'......ARC.

 

This is viewable via the Advanced menu option ( Ctrl-Alt-D) to activate that.

 

In Advanced.....go to Rendering.........Info Displays....and then select Avatar Rendering Cost.

 

You will then see a number appear above your avatar's head. That is your ARC. If the number is displayed in green, it means your ARC is nice and low.....I think green is a number below 800. If it appears in yellow, range 800 to 1500, then you are starting to generate lag via your scripts and worn items.

 

Above 1500, it appears in red.......and its amazing how many avatars are walking around with ARC figures not just in red but numbers like 6000.

 

I have one item of hair that alone increases the ARC by 3000. A single item can cause most of the lag you are experiencing. So it is well worth switching on ARC and trying out different outfits to see what numbers come up.
