  1. I am assuming that you are using the same Avatar name as in that previous discussion on the old forum.

If so, try going to your personal page (by clicking on your name after Welcome at the top of the page).

Select View All from the bottom right-hand corner of the Recent Posts by Charlotte Caxton section.

You should have a list of every post that you have made in quite a while.  Hopefully you can find it there.

    Good Luck!

  2. @Pamela Thanks!  I love your phrase "AND feels compelled to be compensated for the time spent doing it".  I do feel the same way about both about my RL & my SL work.  Seems that the older I get the more precious my time is hence an ever increasing desire for fair compensation.

@Angelina One of the best things about SL is that there is no laundry and you don't have to dust!! :smileywink:

@Porkysometimes I have to force myself to log on and put in the hours in order to maintain and advance the business"   Yep, me too but only for the business side.  The creative & building side that feeds into the business is usually a lot of fun.

    Thanks for your answers, folks!

  3. I'm going to assume that when creating a company you will need to look at the whole business plan.  That being the case, there is a lot of information that you are going to need.

For a start, take a look at:

[BUSINESS] 5 things every Second Life shopkeeper should know!

You can also get help via the Merchants Forum from active SL merchants.

The actual mechanics of setting up a company in SL are quite simple, running a successful business on the other hand takes a lot of time and hard work.

Good luck with this new adventure!

  4. This was one of the first questions I asked, way back when I was a new merchant.  I found that the answers were really illuminating so I thought it was time to ask again.

When I'm in "maintenance mode" i.e. I need a break from SL, I probably spend a minimum of 7 hours a week on the business most of which goes directly to customer contact.

When I'm on a building jag, I spend 50+ hours a week easily which is a lot for something that isn't suppose to be a full time job. :smileyhappy:

I guess that means that I average out at about 25 hours a week on the business.  No wonder I have trouble getting my RL laundry done!

So what about you?  How much time do you spend on your SL Business?

  5. JIRA is an issue and project tracking tool built by a company called Atlassian.  SL Residents & LL use it to communicate problems, bugs etc. & the responses to them.

You may also see the term PJIRA (Public JIRA) used.  This is the version of the JIRA that we, as SL Residents, get to see as opposed to anything used internally by LL.

On a humorous note, Atlassian use to give away free t-shirts to its customers with the slogan "Because you have Issues".  I've always wanted one of those! :smileyhappy:

  6. Unfortunately there is no way that you can do this with the current Top Selling report.  I would assume over time that the current "best sellers" would float to the top but it certainly is going to take a while if you have years of history with other items.

According to the last Marketplace Usergroup Meeting:  http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Brooke_Linden/March_User_Group_3-1-2011

[17:53] Brooke Linden (brooke.linden): we will be addressing built in reporting at a later time

it looks like it's going to be a while yet before any of the SLM reports are updated or new reports added.

  7. Well that sucks.  It happened to me once, a while back but I was able to List the items again.  I believe I had to hit the List button and Update two or three times for some items to actually take.

Since then I make a point of checking my items first thing in the morning to make sure the List count is still the same.  Sorry that I can't give you any magical tips for fixing them.

  8. The question of permissions was one that I agonized over when I was a new merchant just starting out.  I've pretty much stuck to the same system with a few minor exceptions and have found that it works well for both me and my customers.

Furniture: Mod / No Copy / Trans  This works well with my refund policy i.e.  if they don't like it they can return it for a full refund.  Many customers appreciate being able to tailor the item for their specific situation.

Prefabs: Mod / Copy / No Trans  I believe that this is pretty standard for a prefab though I sometime wish I had priced the build higher when I see that they are using 50 of the same home :smileywink:

Textures:Mod /Copy / No Trans  I bucked the trend of selling textures full perm.  The textures that I create are always done for a specific build of my own and they take me forever and a day to do so it's really hard for me to part with them.  Much to my surprise I've gotten good returns on them even though they are for the customer's personal use only.

  9. I sell antique furniture so my store tends to be prim heavy as I believe that every item I sell should be on display somewhere inworld for customers to be able to see and test.

To reduce rez time, the individual rooms of my store are quite small and the exits are easy to find. Over time I have curtained off most of the windows.  The views are great but I've sacrificed most of them for better performance.

I have one straight, central staircase that leads to the second floor and my sales have always been good up there.

I put a lot of work into creating complete vignettes, illustrating the coordination of various pieces.  Some people come for tea & refreshments with shopping as an afterthought which is just fine with me :smileyhappy:

I hope this helps.  Best of luck with your new store, Eidolon!

  10. Thanks Suella!

I played around with both the bayfog & the toyko madness badge themes.  It seems that positioning of the image for the badge is a bit different depending on the one that you use.  Bayfog seems to shift the image 4px up and 3px left compared to toyko madness.

A good tip to deal with badge resizing is to keep a bit of a white border on the right and the bottom of your image so that if the badge size does change the image won't repeat.  This extra white space is cropped if it is not needed.

There's been a lot of great custom badges created using all of the different themes.  Kudos to all for your creativity!!

  11. Has anyone looked in the new products feed? I completely lost interest in it. I liked the merchant created ad posts in the old xstreet forum. Those worked pretty well and you only saw ads a merchant that cared enough would post.

Like Pearl, I only looked at the new feed once.  Too bad, I use to enjoy the ads posted by the merchants.
