  1. I’ve heard alchemy is working on a native viewer but I can’t find any information on it. Linden themselves are depressingly quiet on the subject. I have no idea how big of a project it will be but I hope someone manages it soon.
  2. One of the cloud streaming services is probably a better bet if your connection is up to it. The lack of bootcamp with the new chips is annoying.
  3. You seem to have avoided the second part of what gavin wrote there (accidentally I’m sure). Even ignoring the possibility of market share for macs increasing if there were a decent viewer, the iOS market is quite large to say the least.
  4. Vulkan certainly needs to be addressed, I would seriously hope they are working on that already. It would improve things for everyone, Windows and Mac users alike.
  5. Exactly. I wish apple supported vulkan properly or made metal an open standard but we are where we are and while that Mac market share is small, the iPad and iPhone market share is huge. I hope the mac benefits from that more now the architecture is the same.
  6. Converting to metal would be worthwhile for an iPad client in my opinion. If it’s just for macs then vulkan makes more sense but that ignores the huge potential market for people accessing SL on iPads.
  7. It’s disappointing that the extra GPU power isn’t leading to FPS increases. I’d have expected the performance to be at least twice as good on your new MacBook Pro. As you say, it must be software related. Hopefully it’s something that can be patched easily. I agree that it’s sad so to see LL move away from macs but Apple haven’t done us any favours in recent years with lacklustre GPU options and OpenGL being abandoned. It would be nice to think things will improve with this shift in architecture but who knows.
  8. Haven’t they already said they will be doing that when the m1 macs were announced? Nothing is easy with SL but it’s not as big of a job as switching to Vulkan
  9. Hopefully some SL user will get their hands on one soon to test. They should be significantly faster than the first m1 macs, especially the 32 core m1 max. I wish we could get some news on a native apple silicon viewer, using emulation really hampers performance.
  10. It’s about ankle height I guess so yes a bit bigger than RL and I might be able to reduce the size a little. Thank you, I’ll work on getting the low model down in tris.
  11. Thank you that’s really useful, I wondered how people managed to get stuff with far more tris down to low LI
  12. I have been guilty of using SL to generate LODs until now so I’m trying to be a better person and make them properly. However I’m having real trouble with my first attempt and I cannot work out how to get the LI down on this flower. It’s one half of a flower and vase so as it stands the whole item would be 3-4 LI I’d guess which seems like way to much for a small ornament. I feel like there must be something fundamentally wrong with my mesh? This was created as three objects in blender, the leaf, flower and stem. I joined the meshes together and baked the texture to one uv map so this is now one object with one texture. The lowest LOD is butchered down to as few tris as possible while still looking like the same flower but I still can’t get the LI down. My only other thought is using imposter textures at the lowest LOD but even following the guides here I keep getting errors stopping me uploading so that will need many more head scratching hours. Can anyone shed any light on why the LI might be so high for so few tris?
