That's a super cute kitchen! But look at all that space!!!! Do you know how many pies and cakes you could fit on those counters?😄 I'm the worst.

Funny enough, I don't even bake or cook or eat a lot in RL. But in SL, food looks so dang good and requires no baking/cooking. I can't help putting it everywhere. Everrrywhere!

LOL -- you're not wrong!  I will have to throw a bunch of food on this and get a new picture... although I do have a table set up in another of my houses.  I'll see if my brain will be cooperative and I remember to get a picture of it on this thread tonight after work :D

My av is 6'5" and most other guys are more than head & shoulders taller than me. So are many women. But I have never been mistaken for or accused of being a child avatar.  It's not about height. It's more to do with overall body shape and other features like facial hair, hairstyle, clothing and even behaviour. Anyone who decides to make a twink avatar is going to run into trouble, but I don't think either of your pics make you look like a twink.

I'm sure that's very common especially with Gianni users (like me). Gianni is a very top-heavy body.  Another issue is that the leg muscle sliders affect mainly the thighs, they don't seem to affect the calves much at all, so bulking out the upper legs will in all probability make it look worse.

Oh yes, that was a struggle with Gianni.  I think my male avatar was in Jake by the time I ran that by my son... but I went back and fixed his Gianni shape as well, to the best of my ability.  That body's hard to balance well, since the legs even at 100 are still more slender.

This is so lovely. I have yanked out the scripts from texture change frass, weeds and trees. I always regret it when seasons change.

Yeah, I usually yank them out myself, but on this particular estate I leave in all the season-change scripts.  For those landscaping items that don't have them, script them for a rezzer where I can change seasons with a click of a button.  Fortunately that scriptload is not high :)

Either I'm short or everyone else is a giant

This is me in March 🤣. I had a LOT of help. If you see any guys who don't want to look like a mess, just send them to a gay sim. I mean look at me here. Tiny legs, massive shoulders, wriggly eyebrows and gorilla arms

I ran my male avatar by my younger son (he's a bodybuilder; not gay, but bi) and he said, "Yeah... no.  His biceps are bigger than his calves.  He looks like he's never done leg day at the gym, like ever."

I've never forgotten that.  He's in much better proportional shape now :)

  5. This truly is a gamechanger.  It levels the playing field between new residents and those of us who are more established, in terms of appearance.  SL is not the only virtual world I inhabit, and in all those worlds I've noticed we tend to be vain pretty much across the board.  We want to look good, whatever our personal perception of that term happens to be.

I think the NUX avatar also makes new resident retention more viable.  They'll be coming in with an up-to-date mesh avatar, and in learning how to work with it, they'll more readily understand the things they need to know in order to move on to purchased mesh bodies and heads should they so desire, as opposed to looking at all the "advanced" options, throwing up their hands, and leaving out of sheer frustration.  If we can keep new residents, we increase the longevity of SL; that is a boon for all of us.

I swear, I'm grinning like an idiot.  This is freaking fantastic -- well done, Linden Lab ❤️

    I'm such an idiot.

In two+ years I have never thought about logging into both this account (my main one) and my male alt at the same time!

And I'm staring right at the two monitors attached to my high end Mac and my gaming PC.

    D'uh.

Not an idiot lol -- I didn't realize I could until one of my friends told me.  I've got dual monitors and a pretty decent graphics card and it didn't even occur to me!

For my ridiculous group picture with five avatars, though, I did use Radegast (text-based viewer) for 2-3 of them.  I was able to run 3 concurrent instances of Firestorm in the end, which I needed to do because Ellie (the brunette) was getting obnoxious on Radegast... but thanks to GoSpeed I knew Radegast was a good option for running more than two instances at once :)

  7. I use two different graphics settings when I've got two of me inworld at once; that helps me to not speak for the wrong avatar lol -- although like many others here, my alts aren't secret (most of them state directly in their profiles who their main is, including the dude lol), so if I misspeak I give away nothing but my pride.

I don't cheer for them, but my home team is the Tampa Bay Lightning..and they seem to do pretty well without any support from me!

Same!  Although the same can't be said for the Bucs, bless 'em.... they often astound me with their ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

An alpha-cut free version is undesirable in the extreme. Ugh, having to fiddle with matching alphas when you could just use the hud? Hard pass.

Well, I think most of us are thinking of the alpha-cut free version being offered in addition to the ones with alpha cuts.  There are some outfits where the alpha cuts are useful, like when there's an off-one shoulder top or dress and the alphas on the arms would have to be different, which is impossible with alpha layers.  But for the most part, I use alpha layers (I make my own or use the ones included, which is becoming more common) and the alpha cuts, because the former prevents clipping better, and the latter lowers the complexity of the alpha-cut body.  If I had a body with no alpha cuts, I could wear just the alpha layers the vast majority of the time, which would work for me... and those who preferred the alpha cut bodies could wear those.

  10. I mean, there are a few of me?

My oldest alt is oh-so-creatively named AjayMcDowwll Alter; I made her when I was heavily involved in the operations team on one of the larger entertainment regions.  I was the DJ manager and it seemed like every time I logged in as myself I never stopped working... so she came to be so I could actually have an SL that wasn't all work.  The redhead appeared after too many people realized I was actually having fun... she was kept far more quiet as far as who was actually driving her.

The brunette was created during lockdown, because I wanted to see what the new resident onboarding looked like currently, as my original alts were created in 2008.  The male came about because I needed him to serve as the bank account for a club some friends and I owned, and then I got bored and meshed him out.  He's also quite useful for when I'm at an event where there's mostly couple dancing and my husband isn't available.  I'll dance with people who aren't my partner, but when I'm somewhere folks don't know me well, the nice thing about him is that he doesn't assume just because I hopped on dance balls with him that I'll hop on any other sort of poseball :P

^ If one uses the new Firestorm viewer version 6.5.3, the Improve Graphics Speed window shows how much your mesh body contributes to your fps. It is definitely lower when as much of the body is made invisible as possible with alpha cuts. I haven't compared the difference to using alpha cuts vs. alpha layers.

From what I can tell, using alpha layers does nothing to decrease rendering time -- i.e., it's the same as a completely non-alphaed avatar -- because the cuts are still there, "exposed" under the baked alpha texture, whereas when you're actually using the alpha hud, those pieces are gone as far as SL is concerned.  Effectively, it makes it so all the individual mesh bits you've hidden via the alpha hud are missing; ergo, fewer alpha cuts, which means faster rendering time.
