  1. As long as it's really HQ'ed in Singapore and not Beijing.

The following example is similar to the issues with TikTok...there's a mobile streaming service (IQYI) that has their "international" headquarters in Singapore, but their corporate HQ in China. A while back they were picking up exclusives on some KDramas, and there was discussion on the internet among KDrama fans about whether or not to join the service. If you look at their fine print...they're sharing their customer data with corporate HQ.

THAT's the elephant in the Mobile Fail Viewer room, LL trying to find a way to let mobile users buy $100 worth of shopping tokens without Awful Mac claiming $30 as their share, leaving either LL $30 out of pocket on every $100 transaction on the Lindex, or LL raising transaction fees to 45% so they can still get their 15% AND give Awful Mac the $30.

This is not that big of a deal, IMO...you can't buy Kindle books from Amazon directly in the iOS Kindle viewer, but there's no issue buying them in a web browser on an iOS device, which then downloads them into the Kindle app.  Since LL already has website-based purchasing of $L, all it takes is ensuring the account pages are mobile-friendly.

  3. If you own clothing items from ISON, Fashionably Dead, or Neve, be sure and check the weekend sales, and get redelivery on any items featured. that you already have in your inventory. This weekend I requested updates from all three on previously purchased items that now included LaraX.  Only a single color ISON item (which likely was really old) didn't contain the LaraX update.

Many of my favorite fantasy creators have ignored LaraX or have made it clear they will be creating for both.

There's a significant number of fantasy/scifi style creators that are not rigging for any Maitreya body. Go to a Cyberpunk, Anime, or Asian-themed event and see how many creators are focused on just Legacy and EBody.

And..the point has been made again and again that it is not "adult content" that is the issue. The issue is behavior and content that acts out something very specific. Transmission of images and videos of that behavior is illegal in the US and many other countries.

I should have added...as well as allegedly LL employees being involved in that behavior...

No, however there are several people that are trying to push for that to happen. "Oh this person did this, we must rid anyone else that has nothing to do with it and destroy their fun, defame them, make them feel belittled."

Though they do seem to be punishing everyone, because this one mysterious person that no one knows about allegedly caught someone, now we're all paying for that, in some way.

Just how is everyone being punished? Nothing has changed yet. We're all having a discussion here. There's some kind of investigation going on at LL. But there aren't any new policies or changes to TOS at this point.

People giving their opinions here in the discussion is not "punishment." Even if someone posts something that is insensitive or insulting, they aren't "punishing" anyone.

  8. Here are some things I've been pondering:

    1) Wouldn't it be a conflict of interest for a LL employee to own a business in SL?
    2) Short of banning child avi's, couldn't some common-sense rules be implemented/enforced? Such as:

    • Is there a way to remove the capability for physical add-ons (especially involving RLV, HUDs, etc.) on child AVIs?
    • At any rate, there are certain types of add-ons/HUDs that should be prohibited for use with child AVIs. If that's already the case, it needs to be better enforced.
    • Obviously there needs to be better policing of the marketplace for those add-ons and anything inappropriate for a child AVI. With the advent of AI, I would think this process can be less labor-intensive.
    • I personally think it is appropriate to restrict child AVIs to a access below a certain maturity level, and maybe it's  possible to build that into the AVI's scripting?

Completely off topic, but....A while back I saw one of my dogs tossing one of these around in the backyard.  I thought it was a mouse or a small rat till I saw the feet...

Well from a freind on discord.

Oh, that's just gotta be reliable then...(sarcasm mode off).

The allegations as I understand them are pretty specific. I hope that they really are thoroughly investigated by an independent resource and if found to be true, people are held accountable. Right now I am so disenchanted that I am having second thoughts about participating in SL. Not because such activities happen, but because of the possible extent of involvement by LL employees, and the ramifications their actions may have had on the business and work environment.

  11. In my opinion, SL is in essence a Libertarian environment, and that is one thing that has strongly appealed to me as a participant. Libertarianism, in practice, operates with a tension between the core value of freedom and the need to regulate some behaviors for the good of society overall.  Protection of children is one area where Libertarians would agree in principle, I think, just not necessarily on specific solutions.

IMO, there are three issues that LL must wrestle with:

    1. Are children being harmed, directly (children participating in SL being groomed/coaxed into "adult" activity) or indirectly (people living out fantasies in SL that they may later act out IRL)?
    2. Are there laws being broken by the activities, or by pictures/videos of those activities? As a practical matter regarding business practices, should LL tolerate "adult" behavior involving child avatars if this is the case?
    3. Agian, getting back to a Libertarian approach regarding adult activity in general: I think most people here have no issue with LL tolerating/allowing most behavior between consenting adults in a private situation. The bigger picture is what should LL be promoting? On the Marketplace? At the birthday celebration?

It's a personal opinion but yes, I'm still finding a number of my favourite stores being very slow releasing anything new for LaraX. It's coming in trickles, but I'm still waiting to see much more from places like fashionably dead, Just Because (update gowns please!!!), amias, Mimikri, 1313, and the lack of a lot of elegant lingerie? I'm seeing a lot of skimpier styles (sure, good, whatever) for LaraX but I have enough "show off your belly/booty" stuff now (I can't go to any event without seeing club wear for LaraX these days, but let's get other stuff released. Annoying.

That said, I've found new places that have picked up the gauntlet and in styles I like and I'm 100% supporting those. Friday (for casual), and everything Harry at ISON is releasing is an instant buy for me.

It would also be helpful if some of the stores that are updating have clear labels on the items that are updated (or, a clearly-labeled sections). I was at the store last weekend of a brand that has been releasing clothes for LaraX at events, and updating a few of their older styles. I looked around for a while and couldn't figure out which styles had been updated.

One of the brands you have mentioned has been putting in their notes at Facebook for the weekend sales a disclaimer that even though they may be releasing new colors for an older product, that your preferred body may not have been released when the product was created, so don't be mad that the body hasn't been included!

I have no idea how difficult it is to "re-rig" a previously made mesh for LaraX, but considering that the body is fairly close to Legacy and the earlier version of Lara, it doesn't seem to me like it would take a lot of time.

  13. There are definately brands that I like (and have frequently purchased) that I have not been purchasing because their new releases at events haven't featured LaraX.

@Cinnamon Mistwood - I agree with you. Not interested in the pulled up shirts or skirts that reveal the behind. I'd be spending more on clothes if some of the other brands would get on board with LaraX. I still have Legacy but I don't want to have to switch between bodies.

  14. Really getting kinda irritated at the stores that aren't updating or releasing new items for LaraX. I know some of them are dependent on third-party mesh, but otherwise there doesn't seem to be much consistency about who is choosing to release LaraX items and who is not...other than among many designers with an Asian design aesthetic, who are still designing for just Legacy and (sometimes) Ebody Reborn (at Sakura Matsuri, which just opened yesterday, I don't think there is a single item of clothing sized for LaraX).

  15. Also, delete items that are for bodies you don't have and will never own. I will never own Kupra, for example. I tend to delete the sizes for the extra bodies either right after unpacking or when filing away.

The system that works best for me is to have three folders each for the current month and the previous month. One for Clothing/Accessories, one for Home Furnishings, and one for Skin/Hair/Makeup (this folder also includes things like eyes, tats, etc).

Items that are unpacked after purchase are filed in the appropriate folder; the original unpacked item is put into an "unpacked" folder under Objects, and once every couple of weeks, I compress older items in that folder into an archive by putting them into the contents of a square cube and importing that back into my library, then deleting the original purchased item.

At the start of each month, I file away the stuff from in the monthly folders from two months ago.

My folder system for avi-related stuff is set up like this (not including the home decor organization here):

    Body Parts

    • Body
    • Heads (with sub-folers for vendor)
    • Eyes (with sub-folders for type and a combo subfolder for eyes with multiple appliers)
    • Skin (sub-folder for body appliers, was set up by brand but it's all Velour now so set up by body type; face skins are filed by head type, then brand)

    Clothing

    • Coordinates by Brand (hose brands that do ongoing color palettes like Rowne, ISON, etc.)
    • Costumes (subfolders by type: fantasy, scary, cyber/sci-fi, etc.)
    • Coats/Jackets (subfolders by type)
    • Dresses/Jumpsuits (subfolders by length; subfolders in lengths by type)
    • Formal
    • Lingerie (subfolders by type)
    • Pants (subfolders  by type)
    • Sets (subfolders by type - skirt sets, pants sets, etc.)
    • Skirts (subfolders by length)
    • Tops (subfolders by type - blouses, sweaters, t-shirts, etc.)
    • Swimsuits

Accessories (subfolders by type: necklaces, handbags, stockings, etc.)

Hair (subfolders by length plus updo, pony/pig tail, braids, hairbases; subfolders under that by brand)

Makeup (includes tats and body shine; subfolders by type)

Shoes (subfolders by type; subfolders under that by color plus a multi-color/multi-texture subfolder)

For cleanup I do the following:

    1. Search for items for body types that I don't own (mentioned above)
    2. Search for unnecessary notecards that use certain key words - social, thank, note, etc.
    3. Review items over three years old; many can be deleted.

Similar to the method I use to compress purchased items after unpacking, I compress items for holidays, which can be uncompressed next year as needed.

  16. Herbert Thepervert...I love it. But I'm just thinking about how many times I've landed in a new home and there's been Herbert next door, but there's also been nearby Vert, and Gert, and Cert, and LiliBert and and so on. Like the whole extended family moved in and took over the neighborhood with their Thepervert activities.  This is where Firestorm's Derender and Blacklist comes in handy, since a lot of their belongings are also heavily scripted.

And if you were in the position of being ousted from a parcel that your home position was previously set to...couldn't you log out (or force quit) and then log in elsewhere? I think you can get your correct home parcel information from logging onto the SL website and looking in your user dashboard.

  17. Brands have been employing different tactics as far as the LaraX process. Most popular brands are including it moving forward on new releases. Brands that depend on third-party mesh are lagging behind due to limited availability.  A few brands, like Versois et Mailloux, are making a big push to adapt previous releases  (in fact, their weekend sale items for the last month have mostly included LaraX). Last weekend, Fashionably Dead had on sale some previously released items  that had been updated to LaraX

We're to the point now that most releases at top-tier events (Uber, C88, Access, Anthem, Famished, etc.) are including LaraX. Most, but not all.

  18. Sorry for the silence on my part since the first of the year. My own freebie hunting has been curtailed since there's not a lot in the pipeline for LaraX yet. But I did want to bring up the Snowbound Hunt (see gallery here and teleport to the event here). Put on by the same people that do Spookzilla, so items are not free but very low $L - typically like $L5 - $L25, I think.  The event is all in one place, so if you use firestorm and do area search, then look at the 1 LI items that are not owned by the region/event manager, you can usually track down a lot of the items.  I typically make a list of the brands/items I want to locate.
