  1. I just went to Dubai and noticed a few designers already had LaraX in their items. While I'm still using Legacy for the time being, availability of LaraX sizing is definitely going to influence my full-price purchases at events. Already at Dubai I passed on three items I would have likely purchased had the seller included a LaraX version.

  2. (Free Dove no longer exists - Paloma Plaza is its successor).

The spirit of Free Dove lives on at Paloma Plaza. There's been a refresh of a number of vendors with newer items. YMMV as far as whether something you like is in your body type, but worth browsing. Free group. Everything's free except items in the "VIP Stores" on the 2nd and 3rd levels.

  3. LOL, why are jeans and sports shoes not "grown up" clothing?

But...getting back to the OP question of "Why is SL Clothing Mostly Overtly Sexual?"

Not sure it's "mostly" but the answer to that question is that there is a subset of SL participants that want clothing for their avis that looks like that. SL is a wide open virtual platform where people can basically do whatever they want. Some people are involved in overtly sexual activity. Some people just want to dress that way, maybe because they can't do that in real life (who knows?).

Another potential reason for this is that some of the popular full-perm mesh clothing makers out there create skimpy clothing (this is what people who don't or can't create their own custom mesh designs in 3D software use when creating clothing to sell). The most prolific full perm creator on Marketplace has a lot of more modest styles, but the second most prolific creator on Marketplace has a ton of very skimpy/revealing items.

Certainly there is a significant group of SL users that aren't interested in this type of clothing. You've been given some good recommendations for brands to check into.

As ValKalAstra mentioned, I also recommend investing in some BOM clothing: tank tops and camis, shorts/underwear and leggings/tights. It's a fast and easy way to make things more modest. And most BOM items can be tinted to better match the clothing you're using them with.

Emi's Attic has a fatpack of cami's and boy shorts.

Izzie's has multi-packs of  cami's, long sleeve t-shirts, jeggings, tights and stockings.

C'est La Vie has packs of tights and leggings. Note - do not turn on media for C'est La Vie unless you have a high tolerance for Japanese in baby-girl voices.

Note that Izzies and Crest La Vie have appliers as well as BOM in their packs. I don't recommend using the appliers. Using the BOM is much easier.

Question: Do the stuff highlighted in this thread have to be for human avatars only?

I would say no...but...most people reading this thread are likely looking for human (or humanoid) stuff. If you have a big list of freebies for non-human avis, you might want to start a new thread, as it will be easier for people to find if all that information is in one thread.

  5. No lists in advance, but once the announcements start coming in, I'll be putting info on a page in Apple Notes. This is how I do everything from Spookzilla vendors to freebie locations. Reformat the entry with strikethrough text after it's been posted (in the case of the freebies) or I've gotten the items (like Spookzilla or Shop n Hop). I figure this may even be useful once the mobile client gets up and running, especially if SLURL links will open the mobile viewer.

  6. Here's the thing...using "Area Search" in Firestorm to find and derender/blacklist/block items that may be impacting region performance is not the same thing as snooping on your neighbors. Some regions, like the Victorians and the original Houseboats, tend to be very laggy. To get acceptable performance, I often  have to go in and do that with a home  I move into. If I stumble on someone breaking the covenant during that process, I will AR them. If you had three KittyCats I'd likely ignore you. But the original example,  yes, I would AR, just like I did in the situation where someone was using their home as a CasperVend Redelivery farm.

I personally have no issue with anyone commenting or seeking clarification, or advocating for a change in the LH Covenant. But when it comes to the point that someone will disregard the covenant because they don't like it, that's just disrespect for LL and your fellow community members.

I remember a couple of years ago someone had put up standup cutouts throughout their yard that were nude men. They might have argued that that it wasn't impacting performance and that in their mind that was not offensive. I have a feeling they did it to run off any neighbors. IMO that is a good example of why the Covenant exists.

Premium Users in SL have options. Instead of trying to get around the Covenant, why not buy mainland or rent from someone or an estate that will allow the activity you want to pursue?

  7. Last year I used a Linden log home and did a full haunted house with a prepper/alien invasion theme. I used the 2-story plus attic model (can't remember the name) and up in the attic was a portal teleport to the (skybox) alien space ship.  It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot in the process.

This year I couldn't think of a theme to top that one, so I am just focusing on enjoying the special regions and events, and dressing up each day this month with all the fun Halloween/fantasy related items in my inventory, and the Velour Dracula skin tone (as you can see in the profile pic to the left).

  8. You can put together a custom AO by placing your existing AO's on the ground, edit them, and save the animations in the content to your inventory. For your custom AO, can use any existing AO that has modify rights. Place it on the ground and add whatever animations you like. You can also remove animations, or add in individual animations such as from OMY, etc.

Or, you can use Firestorm's built-in AO if you use that viewer.

  9. Gotta be Colin Robinson!

On a different note...here are some of the gifts from the SWANK event Halloween "Hunt" (free items in most booths). You must join the free SWANK group in order to receive the gifts.

A few notes: the tall boots on the right and left (as well as the hair, skin, etc.) are from my inventory, not from the hunt. The shorts second from right have a BOM layer from my inventory under them that you can see sticking out below the shorts.

These are all gifts that came for the Legacy body as well as other sizes (all but one were for Maitreya too). A couple of the brands at the event have items for very old bodies and no Legacy, EBody Reborn, or Kupra, so I am suspecting they are using old full perm mesh or (or older original mesh that they haven't updated).

  10. Single color. Usually when I am shopping, at events, I'm trying to pick up a new, stylish outfit. I don't need the same dress or top in 15 different colors, and paying a lot more for it! Also, I have three bodies that I currently consider "active" in my inventory - Legacy, Maitreya, and Erika Zero+. Clothing for Erika is so limited that when I do get a style with it, I want both Erika and at least Legacy. And who knows what will happen after I get an opportunity to try the Maitreya update?

  11. Well, just when I was about to vomit from *Pink Overload*, Shop and Hop Halloween is about ready to open to the public. I had early access through the SL Birthday Group (free to join), but just now got through all the regions. Likely missed a few things, but will be back to get them later after things calm down. The lag is pretty bad even with just a few people on there (there are a ton of animated/animesh decorations in the stores, and I think that contributes).

For those who aren't familiar, Shop and Hop is LL's four-times-a-year multi region event where famous and not-so-famous SL brands have booths, most with free gifts. Gifts range from stupid to quite nice (Pixicat had a nice dress and Sophia's/CW always give out nice formal gowns/dresses) . Occasionally stores will give out gift cards.

Links are already up in the SL Destination Guide. There will likely be a blog post on the SL Community site after it opens with more detailed information.

  12. I feel really bad about not catching this sooner.

If you see this message and are interested, go immediately, do not delay. This event is going to end today tomorrow (October 4, 2023). The group fee is like $L99, but the deal is right now all pink/hot pink items, except for just a few new releases, are free for group members. Even if Beauty Factory is not your usual style, you'll likely find. a bunch of items you like....I found pink jeans, puffer jackets, fuzzy sweaters, etc.

    Beauty Factory

A lot of them include Kupra, and some include Erika, like the one below:
