If I have to explain it to you, you wouldn't understand.

I know what you are getting at. I am old school, which means I will use whichever word I want to. Race, ethnicity, nationality etc.. just words on a screen. People need to stop getting all up in arms over things that are not meant offensively. There are much more important things to worry about than sitting on an edge just waiting for others to drop a "omggg that is offensive to me" word.

The world is offensive and will always be. There will never be a Utopian society. Again, a word not meant offensively by the speaker/writer/typer does not mean one is being attacked. Who made the definition of the word "Race"? Was it offensive back then? No. It was widely used. Some people decided to make it offensive. A word is just letters, it comes alive when the person speaks it, writes it or types it. That person's intentions should be taken in context.

Our emotions put life into a word. If they are not negative emotions from the orginator then get over it.

Yes I was reading about this phenomenon, how people will have a negative experience with a member of a particular group they're not familiar with and then assign the negative characteristic they encountered to all the members of this unfamiliar group.

To change we have to become aware of how our mind tends to operate. Such self-awareness is not easy to master.

It can be looked at in a way similar to how the human brain is prejudiced naturally based on past experiences... like Pit Bulls, they are looked at a lot in a negative way. If someone had one ore more negative past experiences with Pit Bulls, they probably will be cautious going forward. That is default human nature. Of course, there will be some that say.. "oh, I love Pit Bills even though I had bad past experiences". Good for you. Most people are not like you, but that does not mean I am invalidating your views. I am speaking of the majority, to make a point.

If someone has bad experiences with Florida, they may refrain from going there again. Again, default human nature prejudice.

If someone had bad experiences with a fast food place, they will probably refrain from going there again.

Should we be forced to keep going there just to not hurt their feelings?

  3. Most people will assume things based on past experiences. If they had bad experiences with a race, they'll be cautious going forward. It's human nature to think that way. However, we're going to have to work on focusing more on  individual experiences. It's hard to not assume. We all do it. Instead of people flipping out on someone who is on the default nature to assume, try asking them to give you a chance.

We don't need to attack people if they do things wrong without bad intentions. It's called a mistake. Give them a chance to correct before you cancel them. Tolerance should be full circle, not just granted to those who think like you do.

  4. if you like table games like Greedy, Hand and Foot, Cheesy, etc. there are sims that are dedicated to those games. You can ask people if you can play a game with them. Most people at TnT games are friendly. If you become a regular at any place, some people may feel comfortable to talk to you since they have seen you around a lot. As other have said, go to places that have your hobbies or try a new hobby. It's best to become a regular at places instead of just being a infrequent drop in.

  5. I did not read all the replies so pardon if this is a duplicate or similar comment.. but according to my math.. Premium plus is not much more than regular premium...Correct me if am wrong..

Premium plus stipend is L$650 per week (times that by 52 weeks in a year)= L$33800 = approx $135 US Dollars

Cost of Premium plus is $249 per year MINUS the stipend above = $114

$114 divided by 12 months is cost of $9.50 per month cost

    --------------------------------------

Premium regular stipend is L$300 per week (times by 52 weeks in a year) - L$15,600 = approx $62

Cost of Premium regular is $99 per year MINUS the stipend above = $37

$37 divided by 12 months is cost of $3.08 per month cost

    -----------------------------------------

So, for a little over $6 per month extra for Premium plus, you are getting twice the land size, way more group space, free texture uploads and other tidbits. Not a bad deal at all !

Peeve: People and countries that believe all Americans are the same and that we are all accountable for the decisions the government makes when some of us didn't vote for them, we voted against them.

You do realize that you are also including First Nations in that and how that makes your country look like crap in our eyes? No, of course not. You all think you are superior to Americans when you're just as bad if not worse. The people that committed genocide on my people from the very beginning came from your countries!

    Get off my planet.

Why are you yelling at people in these forums who had nothing to do with any of it? The people responsible are dead. How would you like to be responsible for something a relative or ancestor did?

Are you ever positive about anything regarding SL? Why are you here for ? Do you ever experience happiness? Just about all of your posts are about complaining about others in SL. Wow, just wow.

Hopefully one day you will experience true happiness and feel that you need to express that, to help birth some joy in the world.

I was walking around the Victorian Linden Homes one day, when some guy spoke to me in voice, saying "Hey. Get off my Street."

I looked around and responded in text, "Ha ha ha. You don't own the street."

He said in voice , "Can you use voice? Use Voice."

I texted back, "I could, but I don't want to."

He said in voice, "Why don't you want to use voice. I bet it's because you're really a guy."

I texted back, "Why would that matter to you if I were?"

He said back in voice,  "You're a guy. Have fun pretending to be a woman in SL." Then he walked off and "hid" on a parcel where I couldn't see him, but knew he was there by zooming on him with the People window.

This interaction made me wonder why do people care what the RL gender is of the user behind the avatar?  I'm not looking for any kind of romantic entanglement in SL. Three of my avatars are female, as am I in RL. I use voice when I want to and have been told I have a sexy voice, but I don't owe some rude little yahoo any proof of my RL gender. Is a guy like that only rude to female avatars? Also, why does someone like that think that saying "I bet you're really a guy" is some kind of insult or challenge to my RL gender identity or self esteem?

Someone else on these forums said another user complained because they were using an eagle avatar. A friend of mine said someone else followed him around saying he should use a human avatar instead of a phoenix. Do these people have so little imagination that they need avatars to look like people?

We can look like a dragon, a frog, or a toaster if we want. I sometimes like to wear fantasy skins and rainbow-colored hair. Sometimes I like to wear a skimpy, sexy outfit. Sometimes I like to wear jeans and a long shirt. This doesn't change who I am on the RL side of my keyboard. I am not my avatar.

I realize people are visual creatures and are thus more likely to feel sexually attracted to a sexy-looking avatar, but if I say I'm not interested in SL sex, that doesn't change just because my avatar is wearing a short skirt and showing some cleavage. Even if I tell them I'm old enough to be their mother in RL, some guys still seem to think of me as my 30-something sexy-looking avatar.

People that act like that are either looking for sex or they are miserable people who think that everyone should think like them.

All unattractive to me. Muscle is ok but to be that defined, it's like dating a bag of muscles.

I find it irritating that people will IM me about how pretty or sexy my avatar is and get STUCK on that.  For some reason they think my avatar is ME.  The whole conversation surrounds my avatars looks. "wow, you are beautiful" "wow, you have a nice butt" "wow that dress is so hot on you" Even if the conversation gets sidetracked and we actually have a bit of conversation about our likes/dislikes, where we are from, etc it comes back to. "can I just say again how sexy you are. I'd love to take you out" and then every other sentence goes like that. It's then that I just start saying some bizarre things in the hopes they will leave me alone. lol

Yes, I have the same problem. They could be horny, unable to carry a conversation well, obsessed with looks, or a super people pleaser.

It's boring and tedious. I prefer a good conversation versus someone over praising.
