Letting computers keep track of our spelling isn't as trivial a decision as giving up riding horses and wearing petticoats.

Maybe, maybe not, which is not to diminish the seriousness of forgetting how to spell as much as to elevate the seriousness of forgetting how to ride horses. We never really stop to ask, what are we giving up when technology rolls forward and leaves old ways crushed in it's wake. We collectively operate on faith that any damage done by technology today will be corrected by technology in the future. Conveniently ignoring the possibility that the future social damage will be even worse, and that we are in the big picture destroying our selves with our toys. Sure all along the way there are those who suggest that this would be a good place to stop, but they are dismissed as a bunch of paranoid Luddites, and no one ever really listens, and the machine keeps rolling forward.

I'm not sure because I'm new in this game.

The game is made up of a cross section of people from popular culture, Those things that are in demand in popular culture will be in demand here. Do you see a large demand for things related to the 18th century in popular culture?

To me, rightly or wrongly, poor grammar and poor spelling is an indication of a person's intellect.

Of course most of this is cultural bias. I am sure there have been those who thought that anyone who couldn't ride a horse was a complete idiot. But today very few have the slightest clue about horses, because technology has advanced and horses have been largely replaced. The fact is that already many teachers don't think learning to spell is very important, because everything is written on a computer with spell check anyway. (I have heard some of my kids teachers actually say this)

And I'd say Maureen is more careful with her use of language than I am. :P

As in the proper use of words, or not using bad language? My SL self does tend to have a better working vocabulary, but at the same same she uses some colorful words that would never come out of my mouth.

While SL has helped me come 'out of my shell' a bit, if a person hasn't actually learned how to function in the RL world by the time they are an adult, then SL is not likely to help much.  It is more likely that their dysfunction will simply carry over into SL.

For many it seems to be a kind of crutch, they can't function in RL, and instead of figuring that out, they move to SL

    HAPPY SWELTERING HOT FRIDAY EVERYONE......

It is sweltering hot, and also today when I was online, I looked at my profile, and I am no longer partnered?????? He didn't say anything to me as to why. He might have done this because he cannot get online much at all at the moment, and he doesn't want me to be tied down to someone who isn't here. But I really wish he had said something about it.

Yeah, I did say "possibly others" but it isn't normal for many groups - at least the groups associated with stores anyway.

This is true, and I have often wondered why not? I mean I can't tell you how many times I had to leave a store to go home and rez some purchase. I guess they are worried about having packages strewn about. But if I want to wear a dress I just bought it is unlikely I will be back that day, where if I could put it on in the store and keep shopping they might make another sale.

Clarification -- This one is 'groups where you have the permissions' - i.e. definitely groups you created and possibly others, but usually does not include most groups you belong to.

But it may, Sunset beach I know will allow group members to rez, they even encourage people to set their home there. There are also places that are primarily designed a for photography that allow group members to rez photo props, but group members can rez anything they want, I have unpacked items in such sims before.
