Just stumbled onto a new style home, I think. It is not owned or created by a mole so who knows. It takes up most of the plot. Here is a link to the public access side-walk next to it.  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Everfaire/86/147/23

How do I get one of these?

If you check creator of this house, thats not Mole or Linden, so I guess, thats one of the parcels where the mailbox (house rezzer) became broken and didn't rez any LL house, so the owner did rez their own, house they bough somewhere. It means you can't get same for free. And thats question if its allowed there - its apprently not how LL intended the parcels to be used - as empty parcels for owners to rez their own homes.

And I'm not sure if its not off topic in this thread.

And so from the other Side:

And here for comparison the real picture. We are very close to reality with our setting, but we are still working to perfect it.

    1071336802_BlickbersGosautalRL.thumb.PNG.1623b2d3409fcbb6ca5b1f842d41a3db.PNG

The RL photo used as example is really bad in the meaning of technical quality.

Automated expossure usually "guess" there is about 18% of light reflection back from ground, but on snowy landscapes and / or in some specific circumstanes (like taking photo against Sun) there is much more - and thats goal of good photographer to set that manually for the particular situation and to try to remove (or at least minimalise) the white parts. The shown photo has really big part lost in the white, I would personaly consider it junk and delete it, if it would by mine. And I would do exactly same with the shown SL photo for very same reason - the white stain.

I can talk only for myself, but I do beleive I'm not alone who try to take HIGH QUALITY SL landscape photography and not pictures comparable with RL photo I do really consider technicaly not good.

We are all different with different goals and "high quality picture" has probably different meanings for different people.

Please do not expect people complaining about the quality of EEP sky will stop because YOU personaly do not have issues with that. We have issues with the change and we have reasons for that. If you don't, good for you, but please do not force us your point of view and do not expect us to be happy with such a downgrade compare the old WL pre-EEP options.

    Hi Neighbor!

I was wondering what you were doing next door. I didn't know you could put a business in a residential area.

We aren't allowed to have business there and I do not have any = there is nothing for sell. Feel free to say hi to Albert, my butler, and grab your FREE coffee :)

Just ...do not open that door ... you will know which one ....

  4. In general, this year can be Flickr very unstable, its in the long time process of moving from previous owner's (Yahoo) servers to the new ones.

More details, if you are interested:

    https://www.flickr.com/help/forum/en-us/72157707090281734/

The new login is part of that, a lot of users weren't happy in the past to be forced to use unpopular yahoo email for logins, now we don't have to anymore and we are free to use any email we want.

If you are active Flickr users, is always good idea to check Flickr official blog or help forum, there are news, info about planned changes etc. And this year its more important than before for the reasons I meantioned above.

There is a big jump between 1024 and a full sim, quite obviously. I for one, whilst I really like what they are doing with the new homes, have no plans whatsoever to abandon my current Mainland, nor stop using Mainland ... I love to build and create new and different homes .. and the sheer scale and variety of the Mainland means I am always finding something new. If this world was just about having(living) in preset homes .. having the world defined for me .. then I highly doubt I would have stayed so long.

    Exactly.

And - on mainland you can have 1024 + 10% group bonus, means 1126 sq metres.

Or for main avatar + alt, both on Prem you can have 2*1024+10% sq metres.

Merged together as one land - not doable with LL homes -  it gives much bigger freedom to build nice home with garden, princess tower in the small forest or to live in park with blooming meadow with gazebo in the middle. Or ....maybe forest cabin or .... whatever you want whenever you want.

One doesn't need to pay entire homested for that.

So I believe the choice "mainland or LL home" is matter of personal need and taste, people sometimes keep forgetting we aren't all same and wanting / enjoying same things. There is space for both.

Soul sells omega enabled ear patches... not perfect but best solution I have for now.

    That.

Make your ears the smallest as possible on your shape, it will shrink the size of hole and those ear plugs should be enough to cover the rest.

I know what you did, you made this mess as last resort to save something that you have broken completely. Not only have you destroyed the little workflow that existed before when creating Windlights, you have also made it so goddamn cumbersome and unusable to simply change the sky... i have to create an inventory object, then "use it" to open the editor for it to get all available controls, where is the quick sky/water/daycycle editor? Why can't i simply edit them directly like we did before like the "Personal Lighting" window does, why do we have to create inventory items to do so?

Switching between Windlights has become very slow and cumbersome too, you give us a new inventory view to see all our presets rather than a simple list like we had before, 3 lists to be exact, one for sky, one for water and one for daycycles if we used them, where are those? Gone because you got rid of local saved presets completely. Now you can only import them which is slow and cumbersome, do you even realize what it means to import 200 sky presets? Why couldn't you just leave the goddamn list there.

Further you intertwined this entire nonsense with the inventory system to have a weak excuse to be able to make these items marketable. You removed our ability to locally save presets, you removed the ability to edit skies directly, you removed the ability to edit water directly, you removed the ability to save/load presets locally, you half-invalidated all our presets we've been making and collecting over the past years and only offer us a measly and cumbersome import function which's only function is to keep us at bay because we would set your labs on fire if our old presets were gone. But does it stop? No. Not only is selecting windlights impossible now, we first have to import them and fill our inventory with even more potentially corruptible trash, we also can't simply and efficiently switch between them now, we can't edit them. What can we even still do? Nothing.

Seems entire EPP, and esp. this part, is complete disaster for SL photographers.

To whom and for what purpose is this supposed to serve? To make skies sellable items? Then let me poin out one one thing - there are many ways, direct or not, how are photographers connected to SL economy. Make photographers to lose the tools and abilities they have today and many of them will lose interest about SL photography. (And I don't talk in theory, those voices can be heard in the Flickr community already).

I don't have numbers to share statistic, but I wonder if someone did think about possible consequnces of such a situation.

    - some photographers can leave SL because there will be nothing to do for them anymore - many of them are the people who spend big money for their avatar's customisation and for their homes as well, because they want both to look good on pictures. So if they will stop, thats not only they would not buy land anymore for themselves, but it would lower income of creators who would lose customers (big shoppers) that way.

    - some photographers are bloggers and their community connection and advertisings make sales for creators - and some of the creators would have incom very lowered (or even would not survive) without them + bloggers are usualy shoppers too, see the point above. Make bloggers to stop = creators can lose interest or ability to buy land.

    - some sims owners (for Patch: regions owners) see the community as part of the fun and they would not keep and build their places if destination's bloggers and entire photographer's community (on Flickr, Instangram etc) would be weakened and would not bring them new visitors. Some people would not be satisfied to build only for themselves, so they would stop to do so = they would not buy land and landscaping / home decor stuff anymore.

Those are just examples, there are more "threads" how is SL photography connected to entire "net" of community life and economy as well. As I said, I just wonder if someone did think about it from that angle. Maybe someone should - before we would be forced into something so bad as EEP seems to be for now.

So I use Firestorm, and it has lots and lots of nice windlights.

Too many. I get tired of scrolling up and down. Is it possible, when I find a setting that looks "wow" to bookmark it or make a smaller list of favorite windlights? I want Nam's skin and prim for everyday dressing and building, but if I should remember that "Lords of Bazom" (or something like that) had a cool effect, I must scroll, scroll, scroll and then scroll again to get back to Nam's skin and prim.

Is there a solution for that, a way to save my favorite windlights and get to them quick?

They are saved in alphabetical order following those rules:

    - if the name start with empty space, then  it goes first - so you can save all your favorites on the top of the list by adding one spacebar click on the beginning of the name.

    - its CapsLock sensitive, so if you need on the top even two lists (for the example: 1/ for dressing & shopping, 2/ for taking pictures), you can create one list by:

    spaceNamewithcapitalletter

    and the other by:

    spacenamewithsmallletter

    WL.png.a693849f1fe872c43383e1d9a4751216.png

If you would need, you can create bottom list as well, by saving the WL with small letter on the beginning of name without adding space, I think all originals are with capital letters, so it should go on the bottom of entire list.

    100% correct.

Anyone can choose to locally apply different EEP settings from inventory that they can edit locally though & then take their shots.

EEP is only a problem is you want to take shots of an-others land with the land owners chosen EEP settings - for example if a sim owner tasks a blogger to take shots of their region using the provided EEP settings.

So it has solution but it would mean the local EEP must be created from full perm textures. I don't see that happen too often.

My point was about the situation you mentioned in the last sentence - sim owners will buy expensive EEP to make their places look interesting for visitors - and then they will be dissapointed about not seeing the EEP on pictures taken on their places. That was the problem I wanted to higlight. Before EEP will become fully alive, there should be some good information campaign to make people informed about how it exactly works, to make them aware what they are about to buy and what limits it has.

(For myself, as photographer, I don't have problem not use them at all and stuck with classic WL.)

This is likely the problem you heard about: BUG-225921 - [EEP] Add the ability to locally modify an environment at any location

    With EEP you can:

    • Locally apply any EEP setting you have in your inventory. This works the same way as locally applying any windlight setting on legacy viewers. You can locally apply an EEP setting at any location.
    • If the EEP setting in inventory is modify to you, you can edit it and choose to save the changes as a new setting.
    • If you own the parcel or the region (or are a region EM), you can edit the parcel or region environment locally & either discard the changes you made, save them to inventory as a new setting or apply your changes to the parcel or region.

With EEP you cannot locally modify the EEP settings that are set on a parcel or a region you do not own or have the rights to edit in the land settings.
So for example if you wanted to take a photograph on Parcel X using Parcel X environment settings, you cannot locally change the sun position etc to get the shadows in an aesthetically pleasing location for your shot. You would have to choose another environment setting that you have & apply it locally in order to edit it to fit your shot.

    Hope that makes sense.

Yes, it makes sense and it is confirmation of the problem I wanted to poin out.

Being visitor somewhere usualy mean NOT to have any rights about local EEP, so sims owners should be aware that visitors, destination bloggers etc won't be able to use their local EEP for taking pictures.

  11. I was told yesterday, that EEP won't allow photographers to edit anything, even not basics as light angle.

Thats not so bad news for skilled photographers who don't have problem to turn EEP off and to use their own WL instead, but its bad news for sim owners / builders who will put effort into making / buying EEP,  making it part of their builds and then they will find out there is no way how to make decent pictures with the EEP included (without Photoshop). So their places will be shown on Flickr, destination blogs etc. without it.

Maybe its not big deal for many, hard to say.

But a lot of places has its own Flickr groups, the owners encourage visitors to take pictures and to share them with others and I beleive they won't be happy about this. Especially not if they wouldn't be aware about the EEP limitation before they will create it / buy it.

    - but know this did not happen before or after - just in this picture -

I never experinced this issue and taking pictures is the main thing I do in SL for 6 years, so I don't think its so common.

(Ok, maybe I should not count years with ReShade, because then I used external way how to take the screenshots (Reshade itself or Fraps) - same as Madelaine mentioned she did as well -  but still, I think I took thousands of pictures with different versions of Firestorm and Black Dragon and never saw this.

And if I understand correctly, you experienced the issues ONCE year ago, correct? It didn't happen for entire year again after this particular picture? Then it was random and hopefuly rare issue, no guarantee it will not appear never again, but if its not common, we should just take it as other random SL hiccups. I fully agree with what Madelaine said - never take only one picture, always took them more and before you leave the scene, check the saved files if they are OK.

If the problem would happen as common, and would remain after year, then it would be completelly different situation.

Okay. Y'all see that line in the sky? How in the heck do I fix that? Is it possible to do so without having to take the picture into an image editing software? I am incapable of doing complex editing so I was hoping this was an in-world fix...somehow... :(

((This was taken maybe a year ago, so I don't recall what Windlight setting I used here...))

I'm not sure what exactly you ask.

The picture was taken year ago, now its saved in your SL inventory and/or on your HDD as .png file (or .jpg or other file) and you ask if you can use Second life as picture editor and to edit the old picture there, correct? IF the question was this, then answer is no - SL is not picture editor.

(Some) SL viewers have really strong tools for pictures, but they are meant to be used for the scene inworld before we hit the snapshot button and the picture is created. They edit the scene inwold, not the screenshot as file.

Once the picture is taken and saved as texture in inventory or file on your HDD, SL doens't have tools to edit it, for that you need to use external picture editor.

But maybe you meant something else, I'm really not sure i got it right.

One solution would be a subdivision... banline your house not the whole garden. This becomes even more fancy in bigger parcels- banlines just extend 30m up from ground... you can build a mountain around your "naughty cave" and have tourists even walk on it, never spotting your banline until they open a door to the cave... might be doable with skycrapers too.

Its too small for that and it even doens't have house, its garden with gazebos. But on biger parcel it would be good, yes.

  15. I'm still looking for good solution how to make ballance between keeping privacy and not being hostile to vehicles (or avatars fyling across).

For now, I think I will put on group acess only when I'm home and on the ground, for rest of the time there will be orb - but with 15 second given (enough to fly across the small parcel or to leave it) and NOT teleporting anyone anywhere, just kicking them to nearby road with public acess for everyone.

I was sent home instanly by those "agressive" orbs twice yesterday when I was flying on Mainland and they didn't give me nor one second to react and leave. And as result seems some of my HUDs and even my mesh head (scrip) became broken after that. Not nice, considering fact I didn't disturb anyone, I was just flying above currenly empty parcels with nobody home.

From the link in my original post. It looks like the owner of Mainland can write "do not tale photos here" but it does not count.

"For Mainland or Linden Homes parcels where Linden Lab is the estate owner..."

I'm not sure but I think most of Mainland parcels, when they are owned by residents or group of resident, do NOT have LL as estate owner, so this rule do not apply on them.

At least I do not see "Linden Lab" as estate owner there:

    mainland.png.bf77b6ce79dc17ffe251735fa9e91a7b.png

I think this rule is mostly about LL homes?

So I would be careful on Mainland, I tend to believe parcel owned by residents or group of residents are allowed to set their own rules, incl. snapshot restriction.

  17. I would recomend you to create Flickr account and to follow for the beginning some groups focused on sharing slurls, later people (accounts) who share places to your liking. As destination blogger I do it same and it helps to find less known and less visited places as well.

I don't avoid blogging also the more visited, but I do not focus on them only, so I beleive I help travelers to find also something else than only well known places.

Like this one for the instance:

    Mystic Forest

If you click on the picture, it will take you to my Flickr, slurls are always in descriptions under my landscape pictures (with very few exceptions when I didn't share it).

You can also check  groups I use for landscape photography, part of them ask members to add slurl in descriptions (as group rule), so it should help you to find more Flickr accounts doing so.

Just be aware that places in SL (esp. less visited ones) are very often alive only for short time, today they are here, two weeks (or sometimes two days) later they are gone. Its why is hard or impossible to update any destination guide and its past posts. And its why you will always find many dead slurls when you will check older pictures / blogpost / web posts. I can't even count how many places I got ready to publish and next week I didn't post them because they were already gone - thats nothing really unusal in SL.
