That's awesome! I'm really happy that we could help with organizing your inventory! It's really good to get started now before it gets too overwhelming. I wish that I had started earlier than I did because I was kicking myself years ago when everything was just at the bottom of my inventory.

Agreed, and it should definitely be showing in BIG letters when you sign up, that it is easier to keep your inventory organized.

  2. Ok, It is time I finally dive into my inventory and organize that mess.

I would love tips, tut's and vid's. I also would love to hear how others did this. Also, I still am being a copy to inventory nerd!, Makes me have everything 4 times and losing a lot too. Tips for that too please :)

you have to do nothing, you agreed when signing up, that all fees can be taken from your payment method.

If you however have enough L$ .. you could sell them and let the USD you get for it stay at your USD balance. LL will take that first before your payment method.

    Thank you!

I'll throw in my 2 cents.

Looks like it's a Linden Home region. These are relative prim heavy. Hence a fairly high number of triangle count, and draw calls. However, that isn't necessarily the cause of the performance hit. I suspect it's the large alpha blending windows on pretty much all houses, which causes a lot of overdraw and prevent effective object occluding. Even the trees aren't Linden System trees, but rather old school prim trees with alpha blending instead of alpha masking like we do since 2013.

This overdraw (where every pixel has to be rendered multiple times instead of only once) causes a much higher pixel fillrate, especially with high screen resolutions like 1080p. As a test you could try to disable Alpha (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+2) and see if this does any difference to your fan speeds.

    Thanks!

Yes it should be OK, now I also have a Linden home as you - nice suburbia :D

How old is your laptop? The fan could be worn or there are dust, hair in it. Now opening a laptop is a very delicate procedure and it is easy to do it wrong, so unless your are skilled, do not attempt to do it your self.

Now I experience the same heavy load on my fan in my older ASUS N-serie laptop - opening FS causes heavy fan activity, it settles down after a few minutes and then depending on my SL acitivty, it kicks in again. In general SL requires a lot of power usage and heavy usage of the graphic card.

As Alwin said one explanation could be heavy textures in the neighboring houses.

A good trick is to lift the laptop free of the ground a little, place a flat item at rear of it, to let air circulate below and better.

Last - but sadly - it could also be a sign of a laptop entering its last life... and hot components does not extend its lifespan :(

I shall ask a friend about that dust cleaning :D Thank you all!

No idea I'm afraid. I went there to have a look & that region didn't seem particularly render heavy.
The only thing I can think of is do you have a very high draw distance set?
Most shopping events are on estate regions with no neighbour regions.  Having a high draw distance set on mainland will load up a lot of regions.

Draw distance 128m Atmospheric shaders and advanced lighting model are both marked. That good?

every texture that is in viewable range, no matter if it's on your sim or nextdoor... or even if you see it or not, if its in a house in view range it's still using your graphics.

Hmm Alwin, excuse me for being a nerd, but how this can cause my fan to blow harder than a big shop area filled with stuff and 30 avatars walking around?

  8. I am a bit confused, I am a shopper and I come in busy shops and big areas. So I know what my laptop can handle. Now I just switched my linden home to another area. It is awesome. View at mountains and sea, since I am last on a block. Then I noticed my laptop fan is blowing hard, so I clicked to see if it was crowded. It was only me there, so no. Then I looked around inside the other houses if many were decorated and I didn't saw much more or less then in my old area. So now my question is, how is this possible? Where the extra blowing comes from? Is it the view of trees? Or just a bad day on server? Or?

When the group is formed, it's like a corporation in RL - it can own land directly as long as enough tier is "donated" to it. The owner of the group (usually the person who forms it and any others they give that title to) can act for the group when it comes to buying land. You can just find a single 104 square meter parcel for sale and right click it.Then, instead of clicking "Buy Land" (which would put it in your name), pick "Buy for Group."

Aha, so if we both donate our "free" tier into the group, the owner of group can look for a land max of 1126 total and just buy it for the group and no extra fees will be charged? All we will be paying then is our premium and the one time cost of the land. Correct?

The easiest thing to do is to form a "group" with your partner and both donate your 512 square meters of land allowance to that group. That will allow your group to hold up to 1126 square meters (2 x 512 plus a 10% bonus.) When you go to buy land, make sure your group is active and select "Buy for group."

Thank you :) That is clear too now. Just one question though... The land already has to be next to each other? If so how will the search go? Look for two 512 next to each other? Or can we ask a seller of 1024 to sell us both half?

  11. Hey,

I am currently looking into land and premium. So I think I got the fact that if I leave my Linden home, I am able to buy 512m on the mainland without paying tier. So just the cost of the premium and the price of the land upfront. Now my partner also going to be premium. So he will have that same option. Which in my mind means we together can get 1024 without paying tier. Correct me if I am wrong. Now my question is what would be the way to make that possible, so it will be two lands next to each other. Are there people who sell two 512 next to each other? Or is that rare? Or can a 1024 land be divided between us two? If so would we be able to put that land together? Or there will be a border? I am confused.
