  1. I agree with everything you've written here except for this...

    It's not roleplay.

The way I see it, what you've described is indeed roleplay... it just so happens that the role being played by the type of person you describe is a very closely related and enhanced version of who they actually are in RL.

When I first came to SL, Dresden was meant to be a character different from myself.  But, after a while, I realized that character was becoming more and more like me, until I finally just decided to be myself within Dresden's skin, so to speak.  It was only after this that I started having periods of burn out like the OP has described.

What I did to help mitigate that feeling was create new accounts that were different characters which I could play.  But, eventually and invariably, I always start missing being Dresden, because of the close connection I have with him.  So, I'd start using him again with a renewed passion, which would eventually fade once more, at which point, the cycle would start over again.

I believe that it is indeed very natural for SL to start losing some its attraction after being immersed in it for a variable period of time.  When this first started happening to me, I was rather concerned about it... feeling as though I may be losing something which I've cherished for so very long.  But, I've come to realize that SL isn't going anywhere and it's my decision whether or not to make use of it how and when I want, depending on my mood.

Really, the best advice I can think of to give Faye is to stop worrying about it.  Don't delete your account... it's simply unnecessary.  Neither is it necessary to use it as much as you used to, just because it's there.  Use it when you want to, don't when you don't and don't be hard on yourself for doing either one.  It's entirely up to you to set your interaction at a level with which you feel comfortable.  Just do what feels right at the time and don't fret over it.

...might still be using invisiprims which no longer work now...

Only broken for some people - I know can still make them and see them - as can many people I speak to.

Additionally there is a new way to create them with an alpha .tga texture, seemingly over some attached mesh, but I am not 100% certain of the exact reasons yet. That has some interesting creative potential and an equal amount of annoyance.

People have multiple shaders, multiple TPVs, multiple video drivers, multiple operating systems (potentially - although I think the bug is shaders and not at a higher level OpenGL) - and all this variation makes an "
invisiprims no longer work now" blanket statement somewhat wrong.

Invisiprims still remain the only way to create the drydock efect in Nautilus harbour, where the Moles removed a block of water to allow the ship inside to be worked on. Quite a lovely thing to see!

Many boats also use them still to hide  water in the keel.

Hopefully the viewer devs that have this bug can work on their code or shaders and fix it for those affected so the landscaping and sailing content relying on them is seen by everyone.

Bugs that kill existing creative content are always sad.

Invisiprims have always been a workaround and were never officially supported by LL.  Therefore, the fact that they don't work for anyone with Advance Lighting Model switched on is as expected, isn't considered a bug and will never be fixed.  Variations in systems, viewers, graphic cards ect... make no difference to this whatsoever.  Anyone with ALM enabled will also be unable to see this dry-dock effect of which you wrote.

Also, the "new way" to create shoes which hide part of your feet has nothing to do with applying an alpha.tga to the shoe mesh itself... this is done by using an alpha layer, which applies the alpha directly to your system avatar.

  3. The one thing I can readily recommend is that, if SL is important to you, you should go with nVidia rather than AMD... because AMD is notorious for their less than acceptable handling of OpenGL applications such as SL.  I'm not saying that AMD cards are crap... they're most certainly not.  But, I've seen them screw up drivers for OpenGL often enough over the years, that I can safely say, when starting from scratch, nVidia is the better choice.

I have been trying to work with it with rgb..I think its called? I used the developers menu to find the color and I put it in but when I do it still shows as wonky/not right. Is there a way to possible recalibrate the rgb of it or will I have to ditch the shoes? Thank you for reading this.

Rgb is simply one of many color models which uses various amounts of the colors red, green and blue in combination to represent a single color.  The key is getting the balance right... or as right as is possible.  And, as has been pointed out, this relies heavily upon environmental lighting.  There are certain steps which I always take when trying to match attachments to my skin color using the rgb model.

Firstly, I set windlight to a setting with lots of saturated lighting, such as Nam's Optimal Skin and Prim.  Then, I wear the object and choose a texture preset for the object which is lighter than the color I want in addition to containing as little actual color as possible.  Next, I turn on Show Color Under Cursor.  This option is available in different places depending upon which viewer you're using, but can always be found in the debug menu under the name DebugShowColor (set the value to 1 to turn it on).

Once this is turned on, you'll notice three or four little numbers on the bottom right side of your screen. Each number will give you a value between 0 and 255... the first one is red, the second one green and the third one blue (you need not be concerned with the fourth). At this point, I select the attachment and go into edit mode and, under the texture tab, open the color picker.

Now, I zoom in on where the attachment meets the skin and hover my cursor over the skin I'm trying to match... if it's heavily shaded, I'll choose a shade somewhere in the middle.  Once that's done, I make note of the first three numbers then enter them into the red, green and blue fields in that order.  This gives me a base color with which to work, but often it'll need adjustment in order to lighten or darken the shade according to the base texture.

To do this, I go down to the Luminosity (Lum) field and start playing with the up and down arrow keys until it looks right (this will change the number in the rgb color fields, but worry not... this is as expected).  Then I close the edit window and I'm done.  Please note that this will not make it match exactly under other lighting conditions, but it's as close as you'll be able to get to match under as many as possible.

Also, if the object is not directly modifiable, you'll have to do this with the rgb color picker on it's hud, but the process is the same.  I know this sounds very involved because, let's face it, it is... but once it's done it shouldn't have to be done again unless you change your skin.

I hope I've explained this accurately in a way that you can follow.  If you have any questions, please ask.

  5. Just to make sure, I Googled "Snide Remark" and, by reading the various definitions that popped up, realized that it simply means to point out someone's ineptitude and/or stupidity.  In which case, I've done that to people far too many times to count or even pick out one which might be considered outstanding.  Perhaps the various moderators which have issued me warnings/bannings because of them would like to chime in?

  6. There is no way for you to universally stop group notifications from being sent to your email.  Still, you've got a few choices.  You could turn off notifications for each individual group by going to their page and setting it as so, though, understand that you will never receive notifications from those groups, even if you're inworld.  You could stop all notifications from being sent to your email, but I'm sure you understand the ramifications of that choice.

Or you can do what I've done... set up a filter in your email client which sends all group notifications to one folder... that way they don't get mixed up with the rest of your notifications, then you can either quickly look through them to see if there's anything interesting or just delete them en masse.

I honestly feel very rideculed for trying to create a resouce to help people a little.

Good.  You should be ridiculed for putting people in danger by trying to pass yourself off as someone capable of providing them with "Psychology services"... when, in reality, you've no such capability whatsoever.  I mean, ffs... you're trying to hire people with, "basic knowledge of how to handle clients and on approaches to clinical psychology," while, in the next sentence, stating, "You do not need to have a degree or doctorate"... are you kidding me?

You're blatantly trying to hire people to provide psychological help, who've no business messing with other people's minds.  If you don't see how dangerous that could be, then I suggest you seek the services of a real-life psychologist to see if they can, hopefully, help you face reality.

  8. The brilliant minds at LL made the decision to curate the Destination Guide themselves, therefore, pointing out the sort of craptastic job their so-called editors are doing is a perfectly legitimate critique.  If they were smart, they wouldn't have to have their employees take the time to go through every last LM to see which ones are broken, by simply setting in place an easy way for users to flag broken LMs/places that no longer exist... much like users can easily flag items on the MP.

  9. As Kelli mentioned, there's still a need for applied clothing for mesh bodies.  It might be a bit time consuming, but creating appliers with the textures you've already made may very well enable you to extend the life of the products you've worked so hard to create and earn you a bit more money without you having to bother creating anything new.  It might be worth the effort, even if you only create appliers for the Omega system... just a thought.

...Dres  (I know there are tons of old, well-made system clothes for which I'd love to have appliers and be able to use them once again with my mesh body.  I'd also have no problem paying again for, at least, my favorites.)

It wouldn't detach anyway.  I was going to do that - and then re-create Bridge in Av Health - but it didn't work.

The orange sparkles were the equivelent of the white cloud we had in the old days, when your AV wouldn't rezz.

You need to go to Preferences/Firestorm/Extras and, at the bottom, uncheck "Enable LSL-Client Bridge", delete any bridge you may have in your inventory, clear your trash just to be safe, then go back and re-check "Enable LSL-Client Bridge"... at which point Firestorm will recreate a new bridge for you.

    Hope this helps ...Dres
